Which band or artist has influenced you the most?
I wouldn't say I have one favourite band or artist but I really love Tones On Tail and Fad Fadget. Their sound has a great balance of post punk, disco and new wave elements and is very funky.
We checked your gig list for Holland of the recent years and you only played on M-Nus Showcases, Vollt, Cocoon and some big festivals. How come you don't play that much on regular club nights?
I have no objections to playing regular club nights. In fact, that's what I do in other places. I guess it just happened to work out that way in the past in Holland.
On the first of april you play in Central Studios Utrecht alongside Heartthrob, Ali Kuru, Olene Kadar,
Joachim and Erik Heijting. Besides Jesse (Heartthrob), do you know any of these artists personally and do you know what they play?
I don't know these artists personally but I am familiar with some tracks of theirs; especially Olene Kadar from Bla Bla and I have heard some Ali Kuru remixes. I think it will be a fun night in Utrecht with all of us.
If you were completely free to choose, which artist or track would you like to remix?
I would love to remix Yello - No More Words. I've always loved that bass line.
Do you think women have a different approach in producing quality electronic dance music and do you feel like the scene needs more A-star female artists?
I don't really think it's fair to think that women have a different approach because they are women. Each person is different and makes music in their own way. The electronic scene has always been male dominated and there definitely needs to be more of a female presence.
No matter how easy technology makes dj'ing or performing, machines can never replace human taste.
What worries or annoys you the most in life?
That's quite a big life question which I don't have an answer to. However, one thing that annoys me a lot in the club scene are camera phones. It's flattering that people want to have a recorded memory from the night but as a DJ it's such an uncomfortable and unrelaxed feeling to have cameras in your face and people handing you text messages while you play. If it was up to me, phones and cameras would be banned from the club so people could appreciate the special atmosphere of the party more.
Besides the passion for electronic music, what are your hobbies or what do you like to do when you're not professionally perform or working on music?
It's quite a hectic and chaotic lifestyle so when I can I like to travel to the mountains. It makes a huge difference and I feel re-energized again. When I'm in Berlin or in other cities I like to check out art exhibitions and see what's going on. It's good to see what others are doing. It's inspiring and keeps me from feeling like I live in a techno bubble.
What can we expect from Magda in the next 10 years to come?
Ha! Well if I knew that I would tell you. I definitely see myself involved in music production and art collaboration in the near future. I also think later on in life I will do something completely different.
