What do we think of HQ Classics Night: JP, Scot Project, Tom Harding?

Was this expected?

Als je een classics set vol Scot Project tracks wil horen kan je beter Clive King boeken. Draait exact dezelfde platen maar propt er wel stukken meer in een uur tijd.

Did an interview with Charly + Nazzz, Robin Swartz, Jim and ED Live for Core Mag

Here ya go!

I consider this as a nice part of the interview

JIM JUSTICE (www.jim-justice.com)

Jim Justice has had an incredible 2011, providing remixes for the likes of Lisa Lashes, BRK3, Sam Punk and also getting to play at Defqon 1, which many DJs worldwide dream of. Many producers are citing him as the one to watch for the forthcoming year and he exploded onto the scene with 'Maximum Modulation’ on Excessive records.

'Defqon 1 was amazing. Up to this day I keep getting compliments for the set I gave. It was nice to see some of my favourite hard dance producers, such as yourself and Wragg & Log One, dancing in the crowd and loving the set!'

The 30 year old, who hails from Curacao (an area which Jim claims people have no idea what hard dance is), began his clubbing days after meeting some Dutch people who had Tiesto live at Innercity on CD. Falling in love with the genre, and with a thirst for knowledge, he soon moved to Holland at the age of 20 and soon started frequenting HQ, Dance Valley, Qlimax and many more.

'I knew I had to be a part of this world one way or the other. Now ten years later of trial, error, practice and self study, I am more than happy to be a part of the electronic music scene", says Jim.

Taking an obvious influence from Scot Project ('My all time favourite producer, I would love to collaborate with him', Jim explains), there are a plethora of different influences that make Jim's gritty productions stand out.

'Kamui’s harder work, Schranz music in general, and players in the sub genres I listen to like BAR9, Roni Size, The Prodigy, DJ Skrillex and DJ Promo all inspire me. I have a strong love for proper Dutch industrial hardcore too.

'The Dutch scene is the biggest out there, the best parties and they have some very big money circulating, however this means many promoters play it safe. This results in a massive inbreeding with the same headliners, the same line ups, and the same music. Anyone who wants a piece of the pie, whether if you are an artist or an organization, you better fit the mould otherwise it’s not worth investing in. This differs greatly to the UK scene,' he continues.

'If you take the Trackitdown charts as an example you’ll see a wide variety of sounds and artists in there. Newcomers have an equal shot for a number one tune. This keeps the scene healthy. I think all young aspiring producers need to take the time to know the workings of a synthesizer. Watch tutorials, read the manual and become the geek you need to be if you want to take your sounds to the next level. Sample Packs and Presets Banks are for sale, uniqueness is not'.

Jim concludes by stating that 2012 will see a lot more diversity, a deep rooted love of subby dub influenced basslines and lower BPMs are certainly rocking his world, and to expect to hear some big room anthems as well.

Well to be honest Louk, I'm (like many) not impressed by charly & nazz, in my opinion they have big ego's, just 'djs with the right network' (Fausto & Artento, which they promote here at PF with some discutable reviews, I consider that as really afwul, honesty rules!). Over here there are lots of stories especially about Charly´s ´way to the top´ and his behaviour 'behind the scenes'. So I wonder if it is the love of music or something else? Besides that, I don't consider them as special djs (what's special about their sets? Nazz has some energetic performance power, which Charly really lacks) and they haven't produced a remarkable thing (besides some very bad hardstyle). So I really wonder why they are a Dutch wonder? If they hadn't a good network they wouldn't play nowhere.

Martijn, Corjan I don´t like the music they make. It´s too slow for me, it´s lacking quality and energy. But okay, I asume that´s what they like. Perhaps a difference in taste

Robin Swartz (dj w?) track last track was great, before releasing this wonderfull piece of music I haven't heard a special something from him. Are you a wonder after 1 good release?

Jimmy is someone with a strong mind, can handle perfectly feedback and is driven by his love for music. You can feel ´it´ in his tracks. Altough I don´t like all of his tracks, some of them (maximum modulation!) are super! In comparision with Charly and Nazz he really produces, which is a big part of being 'great' as a dj. I consider ( h )( j )im as a big talent who deserves a rightful place in the harddance scene.

Sixth Sense is in my opinion a true Dutch wonder. An original artist with a wonderfull attitude. Clever, honest, straight, going his own (hard) way, and with a great heart for music. I consider him in the same category as Geck-o/e & Thera. For me they are the true Dutch Wonders.

Just my opinion ;)

Very controversial post there, I disagree with lots of it. Charly + Nazzz I've known for 3 years now and they work exceptionally hard, I've heard about 20 tracks of theirs that haven't come out yet. They have given lots of support to the scene and also wouldn't get booked for so many events if they weren't very good! What are these stories?

That's fair enough you don't like martijn and corjan but many people in Europe do, especially in the trance world.

Robin Swartz is half of Swartz + Schulner, lots of names like Judge Jules etc are all playing his tunes and he's released on quite a few labels. I have championed his sound in my sets and have many others.

Jim is wicked indeed.

Sixth Sense is quality yes. Geck-O and Thera too but they have already been covered by the mag, I already wrote about Thilo + Evanti and Fausto got a mention too.

Sorry mate but I really disagree with what you've said.

Slating Charly and Nazzz, and who Robin Swartz is, half of what I've written about. My choice of including Corjan + Martijn as a dutch wonder.

You didn't answer me what these stories were either about Charly, i'm sure we'd all like a read if you are going to speak badly of him when I don't think it's deserved.

Never heard of Robin Swartz (´judge jules´ is not my favourite genre, I like the harder harddance), and I don't like the music of Corjan and martijn (I do appreciate their dedication). So for me it's difficult to call them wonders, I hope you understand and sometimes it´s good to disagree ;) Of course I can imagine your taste is different than mine. You asked me why I didn't include them 'above', I think my answer was and is very clear and I have explained it. Glad to see we agree about Jim, Peter, Pieter and Rick. And nice to see some attention for Dutch artists.

They have their own radioshow, which I do like and I appreciate his work for ´Love and Respect´ (which is a wonderfull organisation). So it´s not all that bad but sometimes in life there is more than the eye can see.

You asked about those stories. I feel some hesitation to do so in detail and that´s the reason I didn´t answer your question in the first place. In the past this guy is totally ruined in the topic. So I can't see what good that would bring to the scene or him. But I can tell in general terms, because it's important to have a clear picture and otherwise you wonder what it´s all about. Those stories about Charly are wellknown in the Dutch scene and some of them appeared here at this topic, others I heard from insiders (djs, party organisations, ´friends´). Just a small selection would consist of examples of dishonesty, threatening people, backstabbing, gossiping and asslicking. Are they true? In Dutch there is a proverb; 'where there is smoke, there is fire'. I heard to many stories, read to many times things which made me wonder that I have little doubts. Further on you should know, in the Netherlands harddance is just a small scene. Everybody knows everybody. So to tell the truth is something that won't be told so easily. Because you never know when you meet eachother or need somebody. He is a clever networker, who achieves the most out of his (in my opinion) limited qualities (as a dj or producer). There are many (home) djs with more skills than him. So for me it´s hard to find someone like him a wonder.

The main reason they are booked and remain to get booked is of their network and of course they are not terrible djs, just nothing special, they are so common, like windmills in the Dutch landscape. Which is in it self quite an achievement, while producing nothing of quality (in comparison to Pieter, Peter, Jim and others) and a normal dj performance(nothing like Proteus, Thera, Mark e.g.). I haven´t heard those new tracks, but it´s hard to imagine they are that good. Please take a look at how many fans they have here at PF. After all those years more or less than 200 (after so much self promoting here at PF).

So it´s not about slating them (nothing ´wrong´ with Nazzz), I wish them the best, but for me calling them a Dutch wonder is just a step to much.

I don´t expect you to agree with this view, your own experience can differ, I just tell you my opinion and where it´s based on.

I really don't know what I can write back to that, but my point was to gain attention to these artists as they are doing something wicked for the scene (C+N's radio show breaks loads of quality music, Corjan + Martijn have had massive DJ support and their live show is rocking and Robin well lets just say he and his unitec label have some wiiiiiicked things coming up), so all are more than worthy of a mention + big up. All play reasonably of a similar sound too but I bet you will disagree on that as well.

Those stories you've heard I reckon are bitter twisted words from people jealous of C+N's success and it definitely sounds like from your words you don't wish them the best at all unlike you claim.

Well different people, different opinions, I´m pretty sure they are true, time will tell if your are right.

Besides ´those´ words I really can´t understand why they are called ´wonders´. In all fairness they are nothing special with dj-inig as well production wise. E.g. very few 'fans' here at PF, never talked about here in this topic etc.

Yep.

Heb me nog prima vermaakt.
Op naar hq!!!!
