SUD SOUND SYSTEM come back with an album that once again confirmed their status of reggae ambassadors both in Italy and in the World, with their unique Mediterranean sounds Made in Salento. “Sta Tornu” is their 9th album, a new beginning that represent values of joy, hope, social commitments, which distinguished all their 20 years career.
This album is influenced by dancehall rhythms, mixed with hip hop, dub step and rhythm and blues, sounds that make this new album much more complex and articulated than the previous ones.
Many are the subjects covered by the band on their 19 tracks. Love songs like “Do Parole”, a throwback into the 60s: a power ballad with rock steady mood that gets his origin from the Jamaican tradition, always inspired from old black music hits, “Sta Tornu” that tells the story of a band which with it’s music can bring into the World the experience of the community it’s followers. A Spanish song like “Roja”, a love song for land, exploited and sold for 30 pieces of silver…
There are also songs with more social commitments like “Nazione Strana” where the crimes and vices of the society hiding and protecting mafia, keep accepting the inequalities between the North and the South, exploiting an exhausted land, leaving a thick “Fumo Nell’Anima”: is not just the pollution from Ilva of Taranto poisoning people, but also the smoke of lies that poison the soul and make the eyes blind, hiding the truth and knowledge.
Many musicians played in this project: the trustworthy Bag A Riddim Band, the trumpet of Cesare dell’Anna, the sax of Luca Manno and to point out once again the connection between Jamaica and Salento the collaboration with the legendary singjay Capleton and the young talents of Kingstone Leftside aka Dr Evil and Alozade. The album has been recorded at Salento Sound Studio in San Donato di Lecce, mixed by Riccardo Rinaldi “Ohm Guru” (historic partner of SUD SOUND SYSTEM) and by Sandro Nozza of One Drop Studio and sound technician of the band, mastered at Exchange Studio of London.
Reggae and love for this music are the essence of “Sta Tornu”, a primordial instict that brought the band from Salento back to the game, in a life in which music is “La Megghiu Medicina” (which literally means “the best medicine”) and “Vera Mugia” (“true magic”). This converts into music and words the essential concepts of the soul, an eternal flame that warms up the hearts of the youngsters, victims of the crisis. Music is the answer to all the problems and the driving force to start again without forgetting our roots.
