Kermit Erasmus maakt eerste profdoelpunt

Kermit Erasmus scoorde dinsdagavond zijn eerste profdoelpunt voor Supersport United. De 17-jarige zette daarmee zijn club op het goede spoor in de uiteindelijk met 3-2 gewonnen wedstrijd tegen koploper Ajax Cape Town. De strijd om de landstitel lijkt door die zege in Zuid-Afrika weer open te gaan.

Erasmus komt komende zomer over naar Rotterdam. Hij wordt dan 18 en zal dan een vierjarig contract ondertekenen.

Erasmus a hit in Germany

Amajita coach Serame Letsoaka on Monday arrived back in South Africa “a happy man”, as his youngsters impressed in Germany at the Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup.
Amajita participated in Stuttgart at the annuall five-a-side indoor under-19 tournament. On both days the indoor stadium, Sindelfinger Glaspalast, was packed with 5 000 spectators, who, as Letsoaka stressed, “became firm fans of our team.”

Amajita played six matches, winning four, drawing one, but lost in the quarterfinal against Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb. Supersport United’s exciting 17-year-old striker, Kermit Erasmus, was selected as the Player of the Tournament. “It was a nice learning experience,” Erasmus modestly commented, before complaining about the “cold” in Germany.

He admitted having enjoyed playing in front of such “an enthusiastic crowd, whose support kept us warm.”

Scouts from Bundesliga outfit Vfb Stuttgart got so excited about Erasmus, who scored three goals, that they immediately wanted to sign the Matsatsantsa talent. However, the Port Elizabeth-born player has already signed a long-term deal with Dutch club Feyenoord Rotterdam, which starts in July.
There was more individual success for the South Africans, as goalkeeper Blessing Makhathini was voted Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Makhathini plays for Bright Stars in KwaZulu-Natal.

“We played good soccer and entertained the crowds,” Letsoaka reflected, “It was another step to gain experience for these youngsters on the road to building a strong squad to qualify for the next Olympics.”
