I've tried several translations over there, geeze some words are just totally ****ed up.
Though it's quite hard to translate automatic and right words/grammar. U need a human for that.

A dictionary doesn't allways help
sometimes you need a human to translate.

Some words are not translateble, because they are typical for a language.
At least, they are not littarally translateble.
The advancement of a sense in Englisch is differently then in Dutch.

There are only 2 languages that have this word: dutch and danish.

The second translation is a little bit strange.

Gezellig = Intimite?

Huh...that's a little over the edge!

erg gezellig = maxi cosy dan??

"gezellig" is a very difficult term to explain in full... believe me, I've tried!

it's also one of the most important words in Dutch... if something isn't "gezellig", it's probably not worth doing

try something inbetween "cozy", "fun" and "social" even tho you can also stay "gezellig" at home with a nice book

my American friends don't even bother to translate anymore, they now just ask "was the party you went to gezellig?" (mening: lots of nice social interaction)

Norwegian has something quite like it too!

(evil grin) They will learn how to speak Dutch without them knowing it.

Maybe spreading the word "gezellig" will help us to build a better world where everybody will understand each other and we'll all have lots of fun, without looking at each other's color or nationality or religion!

Could well be, but my point is that anybody who doesn't speak one of these languages won't know the real meaning of it.

As a fluent english and dutch speaker I know how annoying it can be trying to explain what it means.

This is funny I am Dutch, born in the south (Maastricht) We speak, besides Dutch, a dialect.
Some words ore expressions are so typical to say in the Maastricht-dialect that they are hard to explain in Dutch.
Sometimes there is no Dutch word ore expression for it, so I have to explain the word

Hello all... I've been using Bablefish for a while to translate. I've noticed at times it doesn't work?? I usually translate the whole page, but it has problems with certain words. So this is my firt post. I'm picking up some Dutch words, but as far as speaking.... Thats not happening..

its like in the same word as dumbass. you can say it in a way that it comes out, more .... i dont know....guess my english isnt that good

what im trying to explain is the way the words come out of your mouth. you can say it in a loud way which gives it more expression(?) i guess... or something like that

It's hard to explain some Dutch words, and some words don't translate that well. Even with every online translator, my dutch workbooks and my dictionary, I still have trouble figuring out what some people say (especially when they use a lot of "street slang" in their speech).

Well Japperd...grinz...that's just what I meant.
The word is easily translated but when it means more than the word it's more difficult to translate.

Street slang...my cousin was surprised we knew a lot of these words in english.

Grinz, my cousin is back in Canada now and his father is dutch. We're going to have a big laugh, because he has learned a few new words.
