Can I have a beer please? - Mag ik een biertje?
There are also some other variations you can use when you order a drink, like; "one beer (een biertje)" or "give me beer (geef me bier)" or just "beer (bier)"

i have a bit experience too since my grandparents live in the states. it really is usefull that i can speak english with this much ease. except that with my education im starting to learn business english, and that is a bit harder

All Dutch speak english So why learn Dutch ?


while most every Dutch person knows a little English, they're not always good at understanding the colloquialisms that us English-speakers come up with sometimes. Also, it's polite to attempt to speak the language of the country you're in. (In this case, the language would be PARTAYYY-ese )

it's not quite like "slang".... slang is a bit more culture-based, while colloquialisms are more of a geographical nature

i've always liked being able to speak dutch to people and they respect me a lot for trying.

either way, it's always fun

most people who are dutch speak english (or a bit like me)
but when the english people try to speak dutch i have respect for them because they know everyone speaks english but they still try...
