Biografie
Despite his low-key approach, William Burnett has won himself plenty of influential fans in the last few years. Some of them came to the New Yorker via his weekly radio show, which plays a disparate range of music and has both local and international guests and some through his label, W.T. Records, which has released music from the likes of Hunee, Model Man and Chase Smith. Others might now him for managing The Thing in Brooklyn, a goldmine for second hand record diggers.
Of course, there are also the man's own productions under various guises, the most successful of which has been Willie Burns. Though that name will be seen increasingly less so in future (enter DJ Speculator) to date it has served up a range of excellently lo-fi house and techno 12"s on L.I.E.S., Crème Organization and The Trilogy Tapes, all of which are informed by the wealth of knowledge Burnett has picked up whilst working at one of the world's largest second hand vinyl stores, The Thing.
"I just try to be honest and make something original that I like and can be proud of," says William. "Hasn't happened yet, but I'm trying." He adds over modestly about music that has been played on every credible dancefloor from here to kingdom come. Known for his wide range of tastes and influences, scenes and sounds, no two Burns records nor W.T. releases sound the same, and for that reason he has found favour in the heart's of only the most clued-up clubbers, record collectors and tuned-in DJs
