Do Dutch people Use Craigslist

Trying to rent an apartment(Short Term)and really think that alot of people are trying to scam me. Do any of you guys use craiglist?

This isn't designed by twelve year olds, it's RUN by twelve year olds.

Offcourse we'll try to scam you.. We're Dutch..

my bad to have offended people. just seems weird that some people want 50% or 100% deposit.

They are just trying to screw over a foreigner, no one I know ever uses craiglist, its ebay or marktplaats(same principle but only Dutch)

50% isn't really that weird. Although 10/15% is more common.

You have to becarefull with it. I advise you to do it via a real estate agency ("makelaar" in Dutch). I rent once an apartment for one week that way, no problem.

You can find places on Craigslist here, but remember more than 50% are scammers, but not Dutch ones. They are the same guys who tell you that if you send them 500e you will get the bank account of an African prince.

If the apartment has free parking and air conditioning for 500e a month, you know it is a fucking scam!

Indeed, cause you dont need a fucking airconditioning in Amsterdam.

Craigslist isn't that big outside the US. If you do find something in Holland via craigslist you've got 50% chance it's some nigerian scammer.

Can somebody recommend where to go to look for apartments/studios? I'm vistiing NL for 3 months in August, need a place. I want to avoid "rental agencies/makelaar" since they charge a lot it seems, one months rent for fees + vat which is about 20% from what I've seen.

I'd prefer to go direct, so can anybody recommend where I can find people renting out apartments/studios directly? If I had to go through a rental agency, can anybody recommend the best ones? I don't mind which city I'm staying in as long as it's about an hour from Amsterdam.
