How much do you really know about Nina Kraviz? She’s a Russian techno DJ, an accomplished producer, one of dance music’s breakthrough names of the last five years. True enough, but there’s so much more to her story than that. She’s one of electronic music’s most interesting characters, someone who has stuck to her musical guns since day one, someone who has wide-ranging roots that run deep in the past, yet she’s also the embodiment of the future. Her signature sound is a raw blend of house and techno with a very acidic feel. If that feels very now, Kraviz has a lot to do with it.
• MAKAM (amulett, NL)
Born and raised in The Hague on the Dutch coast, Makam grew up with electronic music. With his family and friends being a constant factor of new musical input, Makam decided to take musical matters into his own hands. A fortunate decision, as he had struck a creative nerve that revealed his raw talent. Emerging himself in music, he mastered the art of music production and found his own unique style. With his residency at Dekmantel Makam has fully established himself as a leading producer and DJ he is nowadays.
• GIEGLING LABEL NIGHT
Before it was a label, Giegling was a small club in Weimar, Germany. It had been a student bar for years—the kind of place where you play table tennis and drink watery cocktails—until the owner decided to do something new with it. After the club the label was founded. The Weimar label is all about a certain feeling, one that no one can quite describe. But something that fits perfectly in the motion room.
