De Ethiopische vocaliste Eténèsh Wassié is een bekende naam in het Azmaribet-circuit van Addis Abeba, een mannenbolwerk waartoe zij zichzelf toegang heeft verschaft. Azmari’s (minstreels) bedrijven op traditionele muziek een Abessijnse variant van stand-up comedy. Bassist en sousafoonspeler Mathieu Sourisseau leerde Wassié kennen via Le Tigre des Platanes, een cultgroep die samen met Wassié succesvol de undergroundclubs vanFrankrijk, België en Nederland aandeed.
De tweede band deze avond is de Franse Ethiojazzgroep uKanDanZ. Ze spelen vooruitstrevende Ethiopische jazz en rock doorspekt met polyritmiek en lo-fi elektronica.
