Interview with Jacidorex
Taken by
Simon Jadot, aka Jacidorex is one of the most interesting representatives of the Belgium scene, promoting the Neoacid style.
He is a talented producer from Brussels who has taken the acid scene by storm. After discovering the acid music by producers like Mr. Gasmask and Acidolido in the late 2013, he soon became one of the exponents of the fresh and strong generation of acid producers in Belgium and France with likeminded friends like Epidemie and JKS.
Next to his passion for acid music, he also has a strong taste for techno and where techno meets acid (cores) comes Neoacid, which he describes as a mixture of all kinds of acid, industrial techno and even dark electro. Neoacid became the trademark sound of Jacidorex and his productions go further than the usual acid bangers with extremely well produced tracks full of oldschool influences and his typical deep and dark synths.
He has gaining support by key players like Amelie Lens or I Hate Models, and playing all over Europe, he is currently performing a busy gig schedule to spread the sound of Neoacid.
1. Simon, you are young and talented, what do you think popularity nowadays – is it the result of hard work or luck?
I think it’s both. I know plenties of excellent producers who worked so much for their music, but they don’t really get the attention they deserve. Hardworking is not enough, artist nowadays have also to be really focused on their image, the social networks especially instagram, their graphic design, sometimes even more than the music itself. It also depends on the situation, some great artists are working since years with a few recognition, some other some other just come out in a few months because they arrived at the right moment with something new and fresh. In a sense we can call that luck.
2. You have invented a new style of Neoacid, tell us what it means and what are its differences from the classic Acid sound?
Neoacid is following the lead of the revival of acid since a few years. Acid and Rave was really big in the 90’s, and really came back in the last few years. Neoacid, wich is actually my label, is in the line of that revival, the neo-rave scene, with the fat acid sound from the 40-years-old tB303 but with the new music hardware and software of these days. I would not say i invented a style, i would just say i tried to figure out a name for a style wich is a bridge bridge between hardcore, trance and techno, more specifically between Acidcore and Acid Techno. I think you can hear those influences when you listen to the release of my label.
3. Amelie Lens, I Hate Models support you. Could you tell us more, where did you meet and acquainted?
I played with I Hate Models a few times, he is a strong party guy as well so we always have a great time together. I met Amelie Lens twice, in Dour & Fuse, but she was playing so I didn’t really talk with her, only had a few interactions on Instagram. When I have new tracks for promos I send them.
4. Soon will held massive Fest Extrema Outdoor 2020, what`s about your emotions before this gig?
For the moment I don’t even know if it gonna take place, with all this corona shit, but let's hope ! It’s a huge festival, I’m pretty happy to be on this line up.
5. What music artists have you recently discovered?
I recently found an artist from Los Angeles, Drakk, I ask him directly tracks for Neoacid, it ‘ll be released on the Neoacid05 next month ! Also Axyom Canada is making really good acid and rave productions. The scene is travelling accross the globe, the neo-rave is reaching North America.
6. What is your main goal now?
As always, producing original & innovative music
7. What do you want to say to the world with your music?
Don’t stay in the predeterminated categories, try not to copy, inspire you from the existing theory and be innovative in order to create your own world. This works for music, but also politics, sciences, etc…
8. What are your favorite DJ`s?
I don’t really have a favorite Dj because Dj sometimes do really good sets, but sometimes the set is less good. I was completely amazed by some djs, but then they disappointed my at other shows. To be honest it has been a long time I didn’t hear or listen to an amazing dj set. I’m more amazed by live show. I remember one who was really epic, I was playing near Budapest, and the guy just before me, CVRDWELL, did a really great liveset, the most powerful and hypnotic live I hadn’t hear since a while. On the other hand, I can tell you a few producers I really love, like Mr Gasmask, early Gesaffelstein or early Umek.
9. What do you think about when you create your music (what are the most interesting thoughts that came to your mind)?
I don’t really think about anything while I’m producing music. Sometime I have a melody or a rhythm in mind then I write it in my software and then I make a track, but I don’t think about anything because my mind is busy finding notes, doing equalisation, putting effect or layering ahah
10. Do you hang out to the clubs when you are not playing? Which are you favorite one?
I used to do it a lot before, but now I play a lot so when I don’t play I prefer to spend time with my friends instead of clubbing. I live in Brussels so I went a lot to Zodiak, Fuse and c12.
11. Tell us about your nearest musical plans.
I’m quite focused on my label so far, so after Neoacid06 EP I ‘ll make a collab EP for Neoacid07 with Dyen, Raito, Zahia & Gasmask (a old collab from 3 years ago). I also have a release upcoming on Rave Alert and Casual Gabberz record
