I've been there with a school exchange programme in late 2002.

Or actually not in Madrid itself but in the municipality of Fuenlabrada, one of its suburbs.

I love the city, the architecture, and the laid back lifestyle of Mardrilens. Stayin up late cuz life starts not too early in the day and drink Mahou all night in one of the bars below the apartment buildings ;)

And I especially enjoyed the potato tortilla made by the grandmother of my host family :lief:

nah, Barcelona is very different, been there as well, the architecture is different (due to Gaudi's buildings) and the nature of the people (Catalans are not real Spaniards, and have a slightly different culture) as well.
Barcelona:
-Tourism beach.


Madrid:
-Business and congress tourism.
-International hub.
Dos cafe con leche por favor.
Do not stop at traffic lights:P
