THE INTERVIEUW WITH MICROPOINT
Micropoint back on stage, why the silence?
Daniel responds: "After our second album we took some time to make music on our own as Radium and Al Core." A simple reason resulting in almost 6 years of silence. Recently Al Core and Radium teamed up again, delivering the Micropoint revival which Club r_AW is about to witness. "The first 'back on stage' performance was this summer in Montpellier at the Electromind festival. It went very good, lots of people were there and we were really excited. As if it was our first gig!"
What can people expect of Micropoint at Club r_AW?
"A lot of energy... as we expect from the people too!" So if the books are not mistaken then this is the first time ever that Micropoint performs in The Netherlands? "That’s right, it’s our first gig ever in Holland as Micropoint! And the first one abroad for this tour."
Did the live act change since?
"Yes. In the past, we used to play most of the time on hardware machines. Only in the end we started using PC’s. Now we play mostly on laptop." With two guys on stage working together there must be some kind of dividing of tasks. Who does what? "Al Core is mostly playing on the laptop, Radium on the mixer! But we change too sometimes!"
The Micropoint releases were very well received at a time when the industrial sound was not that populair. During the mid 90s (when mainstream hardcore could be heard everywhere each weekend in The Netherlands) the industrial sound gathered most of its enthusiasts at smaller and dark venues.
Was this a challenge at the time?
"Well, the French scene has always been industrial-oriented, even more at the time than now. Actually, in those days we were even considered by the French scene as one of the most Dutch-oriented French act!"
What exactly is the Micropoint sound?
According to Daniel, there are no real rules when he and Al Core get together in the studio. "Sometimes, just sitting in the studios and intending to shock the dance-floors gives us ideas that go in a barrier-free direction!"
Last question, any new stuff coming up?
"We have some remixes of old tracks coming out soon on 12", and we’re finishing our new album that should be out early 2008"
