If you're going out on a date together you both have to pay!
and no mutual obligations, so neither person will be disappointed!
Going out is about having fun together, not about getting somebody to pay through the nose just because he's male
Besides, most Dutch men LIKE financially independant women (unless they expect physical favors in reurn), so you'll even make a great impression!

I *am* financially independent (more or less, as you know). But I still appreciate not having to worry about paying for a meal. The last two guys I've went on dates with both insisted on paying, and neither expected anything more than a hug at the end of the night. I'm not looking to make anyone broke -- it's just nice to be treated like I'm special every now and then.
Then again, it's probably just a cultural difference.
Uitspraak van verwijderd op vrijdag 17 juni 2005 om 22:24:then again, i live in suburbia where many women drive SUVs (and not good at driving them while talking on the cell phone).
Yeah, I hate SUVs. They're so hard to see around in my little "compact" (normal-size in Europe) car, and they waste energy. Cell phones drive me nuts too. Ninety-five percent of the conversations had on cell phones could wait until the person is at their destination.

even better, most Dutch women want to be financially independant of the men.
I really dont want my men to pay my stuff
off course sometimes he can pay, buy a gift or "trakteren" (wtf is that in English
but its also vice versa, I want a man to be financially independant of me, I dont want to pay everything, he has to be able to pay his own bills, but I do want to "trakteren" sometimes and buy a present and stuff like that.
that's the only thing that seems normal to me.

I'd rather die than that I have to ask my man for some money
I really dont wanna go that low.
I make my own money and buy my own stuff.
"trakteren" seems to be the word for "treat" in English
It seems that we have similar ideas (none of us want to be dependent on someone else), but our cultural standards are quite different on this.
When Jeroen and I were a couple, and I told my American friends how we always either split the bill or would trade off on who paid what, they were quite aghast. They thought he was just being "cheap".

you're great.
I knew it was something like that.
They thought he was just being "cheap
yes, I've heared that a lot
I once have had a french boyfriend at it was exactly the same. I insisted to splitt the bill, he thought I was weird and also did his friends. They couldn't understand that its normal here to splitt the bill especially when you're a couple or the boy is trying to make you his.
but our cultural standards are quite different on this
Yes, it seems that is the fact
kinda funny we have similar ideas
btw, I'm going to take some sleep
I dont feel really well and I;m tired
I'll see you tomorrow here for a chat I guess.
nice talking to someone who has the same ideas for different reasons!
interesting

quite understandable, only over here, traveling 4100 miles to see somebody (and almost getting arrested as a possible terrorism suspect the fist time) would count as pretty "special" too

which would sound soooooooo weird here... after all I'd just bought a plane ticket, took 2 weeks off from work (unpaid)... "and you still had to pay for stuff over there too?"
I guess next life we'd better not tell anybody (so it won't look like Cheapskate vs. Gold Digger all over again
ahhhh... cultures, cultures...

that, in fact, is one of the best things about Holland '
people like the US we embrace the cultural values of others and exchange them with our own ya know
I know
Canada is cool
I've been there once
definatly I'm going there again
This is difficult.. I think most women in all countries are the usually the same. When I at home, and go out I end up seeing both sides.. From the really hot to not so hot. I like the women in Holland because they usaully like they way I speak
And I think Dutch women look better. I dont know why?? Must be the water? I have a few friends who are Dutch and they are the most attractive girls in the group.
yea i think dutch women are mostly more attractive than american women. actually i think dutch people in general are better looking than people in most other places. if i went to a club or a party there, i would probably see more attractive women than i would here. could be that i am biased because of the 'foreign-intrigue' or whatever, i dunno. i think dutch women/people have a better sense of style, too.
