WORM

The (in)famous "Avantgardistic Recreation Centre" in the centre of Rotterdam. WORM is primarily concerned with the development of new, alternative art-forms and cultural initiatives. WORM aims to be a socially critical artist's salon, promoting and presenting forms and methods that contribute to art's role in wider society. WORM's current manifestation as the Open City offers a holistic alternative for fragmented creative communities faced with an increasingly dominant mainstream. Here in the Open City, a form of artistic citizenship is developed by way of high-risk meetings and a daring alternative events programme.
WORM's Open City is found in a building in the Boomgaardsstraat, a side street of the Witte de Withstraat in the centre of Rotterdam. We have access to a number of connecting spaces:

WORM is an international maker space and a platform for cultural reinvention. It champions diverse, often marginalised artforms. WORM produces and promotes a wide ranging programme covering many differing artistic disciplines. These include music, club, film, theatre and performance, art, cabaret, radio, workshops and discussions and hybrids of these activities. WORM can draw on considerable inhouse facilities to help facilitate its programme: two sound studios, an analogue film laboratory, a residency/rehearsal space and an alternative archive. And a bar and meeting space. WORM regularly produces, publishes and promotes its activities in the Netherlands and internationally.
