Really good. Just hanging out in LA with my family – enjoying Christmas.
Let's go back to the very beginning. How did you became a dj/producer?
Well I was always into music and was involved in the scene so it was a natural progression.
In your career you did almost everything, you've produced music for movies, you've played the biggest stadiums, you have been number 1 dj of the world according to the DJ Mag Top 100. Too many things to mention. When is your biography going to be released?
It already has been. It was written by me and Richard Norris and it came out in 2007 I think.
You achieved a lot in your career. What do you want to achieve in the next few years? A gig on Mars or in Space?
Ha ha – maybe – there are some discussions going on about some interesting ideas but nothing is set in stone so let's see what happens.
For many people you are a living legend in the industry. Who inspired you to be an extraordinary dj/producer?
I'm inspired by different artists from all different genres – not just dance music and in fact not just music. Working with Madonna certainly influenced the way I work and seeing the likes of Larry Levan in New York back in the day certainly still influences how I DJ today.

Probably Pete Tong. He's done a great deal for dance music and has had his finger on the pulse since day 1.
You've never set any boundaries, when it comes to music? How difficult is it to select tracks for mixcompilations, when you set no boundaries for yourself?
It's actually a pretty enjoyable experience. When you sit down with hundreds of great records that have been filtered from the original submissions – the only hard thing is having to leave some that are really great off the record because there isn't room to include them.
What is the difference between "Never Mind The Bollocks" and "We Are Planet Perfecto"? Did you approach those in a different way?
Yeah they were different in that NMTB was a really a reflection of the sounds I play at my more underground Full on Fluoro shows while WAPP was an album that covered all sides to what I play – from the more commercial side on CD1 to the really banging stuff on CD2.
After the tragedy at the Love Parade, you produced a track together wit Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk under the 'DJ's United' alias. How did this special collaboration start? Are there any plans for new tracks from 'DJ's United'?
What happened was an absolute tragedy so it was clear that something ought to be done – not just to try and raise a bit of money for the families of those affected – but also to have a special piece of music that would act as a means of remembering those lost long into the future. Once the idea was started between us we each contributed opinions on song structure and melody and the whole thing snowballed from there.

Which track can describe your experiences in 2011?
Well 2011 I guess will be remembered as the year I fell back in love with this new kind of Goa trance that has been emerging – so I'd have top pick my single "Full Moon Party" which has been a massive track at all my shows worldwide.
What can we expect from Paul Oakenfold in 2012?
We're just putting the final touches on the Four Seasons world tour which kicks off in January. That will see shows all over the world with a killer visual show and it will also include a series of compilation albums – the first of which will come out in February.

Of course you've also got a private life. How do you combine your private life with your life as a dance music superstar?
You just have to learn how to switch off.
Nowadays a lot of people want to become a dj. Do you have any useful tips for those people?
Believe in yourself. Be original. Be passionate. Be dedicated and hard working. Never give up.
What is the weirdest thing you've ever experienced?
Wow there have been literally thousands of crazy things happen over the years of hard touring. I don't know about the "weirdest" but one of the coolest recently was putting on an intimate party of 1000 people at the southern most tip of South America – n Ushuaia – which is right at the end of the Tierra Del Fuego peninsular. It was one of the most special nights I have every experienced. We were literally in the middle of nowhere – right out in the wilderness and it gave the party a magical vibe. Check this video:
Any last words for the Partyflock community?
I wish you all a happy 2012 and hope to see you in Eindhoven in February!!!
