Sad to say, but you're right. A lot of us don't speak another languge. I'm not fluent in anything other than english, but I try hard.

i hate the fact i live here, but now i only have pity for america itself. it's a retarded child in need of some serious special education.

america needs less suburbia, less cars, more walking/biking and more centralization/places for people to gather. i think americans are much more unwilling to socialize with strangers than people in other countries because all they do is drive to work and come home to sit in their house. the isolation at home results in xenophobia not only towards the neighbors they fence themselves from, but also the rest of the world. i also think the excessive need for material things and such is amplified by the lack of understanding they have for the way others' perceive them because they are so isolated.
