Wie kent d'r niet. Leila K (Got to get / Open Sesame).

Leila K. on the streets
Swedish newspaper Expressen released a shocking article about the former pop/rap/dance-diva Leila K. this sunday, February 23rd 2003.
- I steal my food and eat at the mission, she told them.
Saturday Swedish police arrested her - again.
Expressen met Leila K after the arrest. She now lives a life far away from the stardom and glamour that surrounded her in the early 90s. She is dressed in a dirty jacket, worn jeans and old gymnastic shoes. She's got a shawl tied around her head.
Leila K grew up in the suburb Bergsjön in Göteborg. Her dad was a Moroccan, Muslim and worked as a trolley driver. He denied her to use makeup and decorate her room with posters of her idol, Madonna.
She revolted by dying her hair and then leaving for Stockholm. There she took a job as a delivery girl and waitress at a hamburger restaurant. In the winter of 1988 she came in second in a talent competition in Fryshuset. That became her start of stardom. Among the members of the jury were the two members of the popular pop-duo Rob'n'Raz; Robert 'Rob' Wåtz and Rasmus 'Raz' Lindwall. They signed her on and released the single "Got To Get" with her. The single became an overnight sensation, and became a huge hit all over the world. She made an album with Rob'n'Raz and released a couple more singles, among them another great hit; "Rok The Nation". But the following tour became too much for the young singer, she revolted again and went to Ibiza where she enjoyed success on her own.
Tja...succes brengt je niet altijd verder !!
