With the Break-Fast parties, the Groningen BFK has proven to be able to deliver. Quality parties, Line-ups and Residents is what this crew stands for. The Noisia-guys also know how to party, not only production- or DJ-wise, also promotor-wise with their Sin-parties. Last but not least, Vera. This popstage needs little introduction, having played host to the likes of Roni Size, Krust, Aphrodite and Ed Rush, as well as U2 and Nirvana in the 20th century, Vera has been the location of allready 2 Sin-parties in the 21th century. What would happen if these three forces (to be reckoned with) get together?

Last night proved this combination is highly explosive. Presale totally sold out, packed venue, enthousiastic crowd, a night to remember.

Vera is one of the finest venues of Groningen still breathing the 'underground' atmosphere. Relaxed and nice personnel both behind the cash-desk as well as behind the bar, reasonable prices for drinks (Beer €1.70, plastic bottle of Spa Blauw €1,00), earplugs for sale, chill-out possibilities, very skilled and helpful technicians and a massive, finely tuned, soundsystem capable of delivering bass-punches in your stomach even if you're chilling in the back.

The venue needed no decoration, for the music was all the ravers needed, as well as an impressive lightshow. Visuals were delivered by mr. DvD-player and thus a skatevideo, some Orbital videoclips and some movies were projected just behind the DJ's. On a table on the side, Noisia were selling their two releases on their Vision Recordings label, as well as t-shirts with the Vision Logo, all for very reasonable prices.

The night promised to be packed, as all presale locations were totally sold out, allready promising at least 100 visitors. This meant people were automatically warned to be on time. As a consequence the room started to fill early, which is always nice for the DJ's starting off the evening. Wizmathics and Mik were these lucky ones, able to warm up the crowd in a back2back-session, rinsing a combination of deeper and harder techy/neuro-edged tunes, playing some deep liquid in between as well. After a few nervous moments, Mik started to get the hang of it, while Wizmathics played smooth and skillfull as always. Both DJ's did a proper job playing tunes of the likes of Teebee and Ed Rush & Optical as well as Commix.

Quest One MC, starting off early, jumped and ran about the place, providing the (allready growing massive) crowd with a superb combination of fine lyrics and hyping up the crowd very effectively. This MC and the Groningen crowd, responsive as it is, went very well together.

After an hour of the deeper side of Drum'n'Bass, it was time for Fre4knc to take over, playing a more dancefloor-minded set. Showing the skills that he has become famous for, extremely tight mixing and longlasting harmonic combinations, he took the party to a higher level. His set consisted of, amongst others, Noisia & Phace - Homeworld and SKC & Bratwa - Prophecy while Pyro & Prode - The Rush got a well deserved rewind. Finishing off with Phantasy - 44 Mag, educating the crowd in some jungle-flavoured styles, Fre4knc handed the decks, or rather the CDJ's, over to the headliner of the evening

Dom & Roland, mostly known for his releases on the Moving Shadow label, showcased a set of fresh tunes, taking no time to let us enjoy some of his famous classics. Mixing smoothly but rather dull, it was Drum'n'Bass-violence in the Vera, and the crowd, as always, liked every minute of it. Dom was, like the last time he was in Groningen, minding only his own business and mixing hardcore-style with no sense at all. Which is great if you like his tunes, but not so great if you're more of a performance-minded kind of person. Therefore, having an MC was a great feat, as wel as a not so elevated DJ-booth.

Finishing off the evening, Noisia gave us a peek in their massive production-collection, starting off with their own remix of Pendulum - Masochist (no, not the mashup with The Tide and not the VIP but a real remix!). After that, a highly entertaining set with a jumping and dancing Thijs and a concentrated Martijn behind the decks, playing unreleased material as well as hot tunes like Concussion, The Tide, Subdue, Brainstich and Lockjaw, showing faderskills and teasing Bad Company - The Nine. As always, Lekker was played as an intermezzo, paving the way for some alternative dance-moves.

At 04.00h, much too soon, this party ended, but not for long, as there was the afterparty in Shadrak. Unfortunately, I completely missed out on Shanodin but considering the crowd in Shadrak when I came in around 04.50h she very likely did a nice job. Yorobi, playing after that, squeezed every last bit of energy out of the at least 100 headz still partying, playing a hard but nice set while giving the faders a hard time.

Groningen has been treated to an evening of Drum'n'Bass not easily matched. But knowing the ambition of both the BFK and Noisia, I am sure this night will meet its match in the future. Considering the size of the crowd, only one question remains: How big can it get?
