Switch @ Stubnitz

Location, Stubnitz Amsterdam

Switch is an underground Techno movement. Several years now they organize subliminal Techno party’s in and around Amsterdam. What this organisation separates from most off the other movements is that everything has to be connected with each other. Lights, music, deejays, visitors and organisation are one at nights like this.

Unity is what keeps this scène together. And exactly that is what you feel at the carefully chosen locations in and around the Dutch capital which they choose.

For this night only Switch stepped off the Amsterdam grounds to give a party at the Amsterdam harbours. The perfect underground location.

For the first time ever above undergrounds demands a special location. That special location was the Stubnitz.

The Stubnitz is an old fish trawler. Completely turned over to the place to party in Amsterdam. With two decks and three dancing areas its more then just a boat where you can dance on.

The Stubnitz breaths atmosphere.

And that’s exactly what you notice when you approach this institute. To make sure its exclusive and stays that way it only stays there for a few or several months.

We entered the Stubnitz around eleven thirty. People were hanging on deck and yes. It felt good. Sound rises up from the decks below. Together with a very nice view at the seaside of the harbour things couldn’t have been better.

The sounds that were rising sounded somewhere in the middle of Minimal and Techno. Not even knowing that there were three areas which hosted three styles of Techno music.

After a few handshakes with the scène i went down below. On my way down the stairs i was thrilled to see that this organisation spend a lot of its budget to the decoration of it all.

The party was complete in every way.

It just needed some more people to succeed.

Around midnight the sign "Sold Out" appeared and we were off.

I danced, i stepped, and enjoyed this special night out. After a few walkabouts in an around the boat I finally found the place to stay for the rest of the night.

A pumping Techno area with beats around the 140bpm. Energy is what techno music brings for me. To give and to receive. And exactly that is what Switch brought me.

The decorated room was the darkest one off all. But just that and the well directed light-equipments did give it "that" techno feeling what we desired.

Switch didn’t choose for Big headliners. The choice the made was clear. We give you our own atmosphere instead of a party where some headliners attract people.

With a magnificent view and location.

For a crowd that feels instead of some crowd that only can move on beats with somebody they adore.

They succeeded in there original plan.

As the the night turned into morning only a few people left the gangway of this ship. Those who wanted to escape the three areas set themself at the main deck where they enjoyed the gathering.

Others just walked on deck to smoke and went back down below. Even outside the degrees were just right to relax under the shining stars an "almost" full moon.

It all felled all like homecoming.

There is a time to come and there is a time to go. My feet killed me! They only had enough strength to take me off the gangway to the car.

And so they did. With the lights off the Stubnitz against the morning red I went to the place i call home.

Several days later now . I'm just about ready to describe what I have seen and noticed. Not all off it is there to write down. That is what you have to see for yourself.

Switch made their first party above ground an unbelievable happening, and I’m looking forward to the next one. At the Wester Union in Amsterdam. With big headliners this time.
