Useful for the foreign visitors as well as for the dutch.
Places to go, places to avoid...What? Where? Why? Etc...
Share your experience!:)
The one with the great yellow M :O
Ahaha :d It's not true!!! But there, you've got to be carefull  Avoid mainly places in the redlight district, Rembrandplein and Leidseplein, basicly all the tourist areas.
There are some nice restaurants in Amsterdam: you can try in the Jordan, in the Pijp... :)

Most of the restaurant are not comparable with french restaurants and only a few call themselve that way actually, it's usually more "international/mediteranean" food.If you're looking for typical french food in the netherland you'll be disapointed however there are some good ones, just different style.Even Ciel Bleu in Hotel Okura (Amsterdam) says he's a french restaurant, i haven't really found any french specialities there but they make really good food, let's say modern cooking "french inspired".I would recommand that one, it's a 2 star Michelin, nice view on amsterdam as it's located on the 23th floor of the hotel.

Probably less expensive than the one recommended by French Connection, but I liked Mashua @ Herengracht a lot (www.mashua.nl). The menu is latin fusion as they call it theirselves. I would try that one.

I personally stay away from little restaurants that aren't really well known, you never know what you'll find over there.. It could be positive or negative but I'm not really up for taking chances.. I recommend basically any place in Scheveningen, they have great food..

Thanks for the tips, looks really nice (Prinsengracht, by the way, according to their website) (y) Gonna try it :honger:
Another very good one (and yes, cheaper than Ciel Bleu!) is Herrie:

This one should get a Michelin star. The owner is a quite famous Dutch cook who has a show on television. The bar, downstairs, is also very nice just for a drink (nice cocktails :p )

 Well, that's almost impossible i'm afraid. The last time i asked for Ricard in Holland, they forgot to put the water in, i only got a full glass of pure Ricard :roflol:
However, for the cheese, you can find that, also in some small shops (in A'dam: "la fromagerie", Marnixstraat, has got quite a large choice, very good stuffs).Same for the Cote du Rhone but it coasts quite a lot here.

Mc Donald's in Holland is totally 100 % better than in Italy !!!

but the nicest and cheapest restaurant i've been in Holland was the one in Eindhoven, Bella Roma if i'm not wrong... it's in the middle of the town, i'm gonna look for the name of the street.. i just remember that's in a place in front of a Mc Donald's... really really good!!!

I'm sure it's the same one, but there's a very good Italian in Eindhoven, in a street in front of the train station near the cinema (there's quite a lot of restaurants in that street actually), they've got very good pizza's (and they are really hard to find in Holland!)

Yesterday i went to Nomade in Amsterdam.
Nice location/concept but the food was crap, especially the couscous :(
I wont recomand it, it's quite expensive also (n)
Vegetarian couscous.
The semolina was crap, too big, no sauce, not the right ingredients etc... Nothing they should call "couscous".

kaatje aan de sluis, is like the most dutch restaurant you'll find, ever.
