I would like to communicate with somebodies in Holland for some reasons.
that nice lovely girl is also in this website.
But sounds like they speak only Dutch,
i'm not sure if they also speak English like a second language?

I would like to say
' i dont have any bad intention,
i would like to get to know you.
Long like one year already I know you from my side
but to protect your feeling I kept quiet and did not show up.
Now I just would like to say hi and i hope you not mind to be friends.'

anybody who can speak both languages please help.

I grew up in a very small village in the Netherlands. I think its completely bullshit that only people from the city can speak English in a decent way. We all get the same education. So don't tell people from abroad that when they go to village most people don't know how to speak the language.

And I do know for a fact that in most village a lot of people speak English in a decent way...

Luckily I can say I speak English fluently, after being married to a US citizen and worked on a US army base where I did all the customer support. I did not get any more English classes than anybody else and my god I sucked at that class... practice does a lot more then just sitting at school following these classes...

Everybody can learn English no matter where you live...

I agree! It's important to learn as many languages as you can. Atleast the ones that matter.

I don`t know so many dutch people, but the people i know can speak perfekt english, and at the moment it is the only way to talk with this people, because they don`t can speak german and i don`t can speak dutch.

I`m still learn dutch but the hard thing on this language is to talk it, so it is not a big problem more to understand the write or listen the sound, but how i can say it for best??

Dutch is not so soft like germany many words are hard and this is really different from german.

But to say Netherland people don`t can talk in english or only people in big citys is so stupid, because it is not true.

Everybody can learn it when he want it okay it is sometimes not easy but everybody can do it.

In the big city's you could say that they're fluent.
But in smaller places, sometimes it can be a mission impossible..
But most Dutch people speak ok english, they can save themselves in tricky situations..

Living in Londen right know since 3 months..
I've also studied Cambrigde at the Britische Council in amsterdam.
Finished it with a B.
I think the Dutch people can speak the most lanagues in the whole world.
At school we got to learn proper english, german, french and spanish..
That's more then any other in the world we should be proud on this!

I spreak engelish ferry good
Waarschuw beheerder
this has been responded to quite often already, but i'll post my remarks anyways..

compared to the inhabitants of a lot of other european countries the dutch speak english pretty well

in my opinion one of the main reasons for this is that movies and sitcoms on TV are not dubbed, but only subtitled.
this way they (maybe subconsciously, maybe not) learn while watching tv.
i have talked to people that were actually quite surprised how well they spoke english without any real practice), however because of this they make a lot of spelling-mistakes when writing..

a dutch friend of mine was in germany a few weeks ago and it was quite hard for her to just have a short conversation in a restaurant, simply because of her lack of knowledge on the german language and the people there didn't speak english or dutch..
i'm austrian myself and there i have a couple of friends there that don't speak english at all and i need to translate everything..

when moving to the netherlands i was really glad that the general level of english is that high, so i never had any issues communicating with people before getting a grip on the dutch language (unlike France, which was a disaster when i didn't speak french at first)

I think it's funny that if you'd speak English to a Dutch person their English is 'ok'.
But then if you question their English vocabulary they bring out the big guns.

Waarschuw beheerder
They'r doing their best and the English vocabulary of most dutch people is much better than the Dutch vocabulary of most expats living in the Netherlands for a couple of years.

The dutch people should be proud.

You can assume that must Dutch people do speak English. Since we all have to take English classes in school(also german and french but that depends on the level of education your doing).

I have had both, but speak neither German nor French :D
English is just a very easy language to learn and use, I actually prefer it over dutch.

Almost every Dutch person I have met speaks English, and the only ones that didn't were much older. What surprises is me is how often they will ask me "Did I say that right?" or "Do you understand what I'm trying to say?" even though it is perfectly clear. I don't think they are giving themselves enough credit for how well they actually speak the language.

As for me, I'm American. Here if you speak more than one language you are either gifted or from another country.
