Tony Rohr has been keeping busy these days, from his globe trotting tour schedule, his steady stream of quality productions and a new mixed cd titled - Greetings from Brooklyn, released this month and distributed by Ayia Napa in Germany. I met Tony one night in NYC at Avalon when we were both there to see Steve Rachmad and Rob Hood. Unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to see him perform yet since he doesn’t play in Canada very often, but the sets I have heard have been good! He was my Pulse featured artist a few months ago where he wrote a summary of his day at the Awakenings festival & after party this past summer, and this is the follow-up interview.
Kate: Many of your releases have had interesting titles such as “My Basement Smells like Lesbians, Purists kill Techno, Dirka Dirka or Tony Rohr Loves you All”, where do you get the inspiration for these names?
Tony: haha… 9 times out of 10 it’s usually something that pops into my head and makes me laugh. however, each one has a story behind it. You’ll have to ask me over a beer or sometime with the tape running.
Kate: It’s the year 2010, where do you see yourself career wise?
Tony: Doing sound installations in 11.6 surround sound on my Mars colony!
Kate: Do you have any releases planned for the rest of 2006?
Tony: I have a solo clink coming out very soon… also I recently remixed Alexi Delano’s “acid burning” for ad-ltd, an x-dream remix which is due out any day now. also, coming out soon in 2007 I have a remix for Micha Klang, new tora tora tora, a remix I did for Alexi & Xpansul, a remix I’m doing for midimiliz (extrawelt) that I’m stoked about that is destroying floors (if I may toot my own horn.) Also “Greetings from Brooklyn”, my live set/mix cd from Chris’ Spin club in Ibiza, out now!
Kate: If you could go back in time which period in music history would you want to experience?
Tony: I’d rather skip to the future to see what’s going on.
