Hey everyone,
I was wondering where the English-speaking folks live over here. It sounds logical to think most foreign exchange students and expats live in the West (Amsterdam, Rotterdam and the rest of the Randstad), but is this really the case? In Enschede (in the far-East, near the German border) most foreign students I know blend in with the Dutch (especially Germans of which a lot have learned to speak Dutch). The Asians however, seem to cling together more, and don't tend to learn Dutch or even proper English, due to them speaking their native language with their friends. BTW I don't think foreign students who are only here for a few years at most SHOULD learn Dutch, but it is widely appreciated.
So I have three questions for you:
1) Where are you originally from?
2) Where do you live in The Netherlands?
3) Do you speak any Dutch yet?
BTW I'm Dutch... and curious as always
