with the rolling "R"

I've got two Scottish friends and if I hang out with them too much I start speaking Scottish myself

I prefer the English accent, but not too posh!

Uitspraak van MorningSt@r op vrijdag 26 januari 2007 om 15:32:
do u really think so

L'Italiano è sexy!!
The american accent is absolutely terrible! Next to that they always have to change everything in the english language or pronounce things differently. Fucking annoying!!

they've got a very lazy accent, they hardly move a muscle when they speak.
@stictlyCore: Dutch makes just as much sense as English. While English has quite regular grammar rules, it often lacks phonetic spelling. The British are more conservative when it comes to spelling (i.e. tough-tuff, colour-color (sounds more like culler?) etc.). If you read a book written in English in, let's say, 1700, it is actually much like the present-day form of English. Written Dutch has been and is being ajusted to it's evolution all the time. If you hear a radio fragment from before the war (WW2) it's perfectly comprehendible but the pronounciation is a little different. However, if you read a text from that time, the spelling matches the sound of it, more like German (In den daage, Nederlandsch, wooning. In this way Dutch isn't that hard to pronounce at all. You just have to learn the sounds.

A good example of an at first-sight impronounceable English word: enough. Is it enow, eno or enuff? See though, enough, plough. 3 different sounds from just one spelling form. Priceless ;)

OT: When it comes to accents, I prefer Zauf Èffricen English :D

American is not a language it's a accent ;)
And it drives me up the wall!!
Nothing beats a British accent :)

What exactly is ment with 'american accent'... I mean someone from NY sounds pretty different from someone from Texas...

(I have to say, I automatically think of a heavy Texas accent -''Y'all''8)- when I read 'American')

It's : lief :

It's still a Dutch website :)

I like the American accent but more like you hear on TV, in programmes like Grey's Anatomy, Will & Grace. Not the overdone kinda way like "beeeeeeeeeeeautiful".

The British accent is okay too, but not in the Hugh Grant-way. That's just TOO much. I also love the Irish and Scottish accent, but a friend of mine knows this Irish lad and when he starts talking I can't follow a word of what he's saying. American and British accents are way easier to follow.

I don't really prefer any of the accents, they all have their own charms.

Same here in Holland, when you go East they talk different, when you go to Limburg they talk different, not to mention Friesland (Fryslân). It's all different, but they're all charming in their own way.

I'm from Utrecht, my boyfriend is from Almelo (close to the German border, far East of Holland). When I started dating him and he talked in his own dialect, I completely lost him. Even now, after half a year, I still have trouble following the conversations there when everybody's talking and I can't focus on just one person. It's frustrating sometimes, since I often miss the funny bits. And then they find me funny because I'm the "Utrechter" that doesnt get the joke. Ah well, in a year or so I'll be talking just as "charming" as them.

Irish accent is way much better.

I don't like a bit of it... The R at the end of an English word should always left silent except if the next word in the sentence starts with a vowel.

I think American accents suck, except New England (Massachusets, Rhode Island etc) where people tend to have a slight leftover of the British accent.
