What is your first thought, when you read or think of germany? (as i am)

Is it more negative or positiv?
I'm just curious, as i am pretty often in foreign countries, i get different resonance, coz of my german past.

I spend long time in america and i always had a nice welcome there as a german.
In France they insulted me as nazi and crap like this.
In Holland are my impressions very mixed, young ppl are cool and older go sometimes to a distance to me.
My past is my burden...

When it's football Holland vs Germany, then I hate Germany :) The country is nice, some cool cities and the people... some Germans are oke, some suck (Rudi Voller :p). Just like everywhere else I guess.
Lieber 1000 Deutsche auf Mallorca, wie 20 Hollander!
this is special for my dutch friends!
you have to be either dutch or german to understand that one :D

Unfoortunately that;s true with the older folks :aai:

Don't pay attention to that..

The mentality of the germans is sometimes very bossy..very annoying when even a guy who's employee at a amusement park is acting like he's Above (my dad in this case) anyone.

It's allmot like germans have a problem with handling authority :S
hehe, first associations are not so mixed positive / negative, but that isn't serious :P
But German people are cool, the love parade is fantastic, and Berlin is a nice city :9
i love germany, i live 3 km from the border, and come often in deutschland. to shop or disco
i love german football. i go often to bvb, bmg, bochum and schalke04. but bvb is my favorite club:D
verry good athmosfere there.
no riots.
and the people are verry friendly
so i love germany
if you know history a little bit, you should guess what people in Poland think about Germany (especially old people)for example concentration camps; i live 60km to the border with Germany and sometimes i go for shopping to the nearest cities or to Berlin (200km) cause clothes you have amazing;) and it's not nice when i see notices "Pole don't steal"; Indeed, few years ago some hustlers went to Germany or to other countries and stole some cars etc. and that's why we have that kind of opinion nowadays;( but i think that everything changed and we aren't like that; resume.. in my opinion people from Germany are very nice and friendly; the most i like germans from the west :)
greetings :)
btw. you should buy Mallorca from the Spain :P

I live in a town where a lot of germans spend their holiday on the campings and on their ´boten´ in the harbour. I´m cool with germans! (Y)
The only thing is that most of the germans here are always start talking in german, and when you answer them in english, they sometimes just go on in german.

German people: don´t consider every dutch one to talk and understand german!

sure i care, i went to so many countries in the world and every one asked me about my past, you don't tell everyone to fuck off then.

See i am a Brit but even tho Amunra the Canadian insults me all the time,i forgive him because it is in the past lol just like Germany should be forgiven for the nazi's,NOT ALL GERMANS ARE NAZI'S nor were they back then fear is very good at changing political opinions of the general public. Also i forgive Canada for Alanis Morrisette.I forgive Australia for Neighbours,Jason Donovan, and Cell block H.I will eventually forgive America for Bush.I forgive Holland for Clogs and I forgive the French.
I lived in Germany for a year....I felt like a complete alien for ages, and why do Germans always stare at you like you have three heads or something? My love is for Berlin though and I love that City, it holds special Love Parade memories for me.

I was honered that I had the chance to live in Germany though, and they are so organised and get things done with efficiency it's great!!

Mixed feelings come to mind...

The whole WO II situation brings negative feelings offcourse, and the fact that almost all Germans start talking in their own native language when they're in other countries isn't a good thing either in mu opinion..

But when I think of Nature One and the mood German visitors of party's all over the world are in, I consider that the positive thing about Germany.

Porsche Carrera GT. I don't think I'll have to explain that. :)
And the germans @ index, Schuttorf when Steve Angello played there. The atmosphere was so relaxed, it was a revelation for me.

I've been to Germany many times before and find people's attitude varies in different cities. In Hamburg I've never had a problem, maybe becuase it's a multi-cultural city. Frankfurt was fine also, but in Cologne, Dusseldorf and Munich I found the people a little bit moody. Sometimes the gabbers in Germany aren't as friendly as in Holland (only a very few) once they find out I'm English, I think this has everything to do with WW II.
germany is cool
no problems

only when it comes to soccer :D
!Krystian
i`ve experienced the same things....
i was born in Germany and lived there for over a year
then my parents moved to the Netherlands
I`ve had many problems during my life as a kid because i was a german..... but times makes everything alright.

the thing is i aint no longer a dutch man or a german.
i prefer "European"

And when Holland has to compete with Germany in a soccer game :::: may the best team win

I thought that also, but really they need to get over it I feel....history is history.

I agree that they seem a little moody, like they can't lighten up or something, they have a very dry sense of humour.
i love germany. hope to work and live there in a few years
why do german men dig a hole in the sand whenever there on the beach
for the beer-bottles :bier:

that´s a typical problem of german people. They do care more about others than of themselves. And "stare" is really the right word. It´s not just like short looking at someone. And after that you can be sure, that the one will talk about you, because he/she will find for sure something on you that doesn´t correspond to their mind. So it´s worth to be discussed with others, but just not with you. You will never hear the contents directly, ´cos the most germans don´t have the balls for that. It´s always the same... You really have to think twice about who you call a friend or even who you trust.

Other specifics could be arrogance & envy
well dunno, i never had this experiance u made StrictlyCore and i think they stare at "Kittylix" for some other reasons :P :D:D:D:D hehehe

and germany is very different, depence where u are located, what city and which generation you are specific talking. I think cologne, for instance, is the most tolerant city in the world.

well i live in germany so i made several experiences in different cities. For sure big town like cologne, frankfurt, etc are more tolerant. But i think you will agree to the point that german people are envious at others ?
uff hard to say .... i don't think it's envious, it's more they have to have a systematic, methodic life ?
But this is only for the older generation, i don't know any of my friends in my age who are envious or jealous, but everyone makes other experiences :)

right, that should be the sense of everyones life. Find own ways and go them straight till the end...

Arrogance yes, but envy??

After a few months of living there, you get used to the "staring" or just learn to not let it bother you as much. I just found the excessive staring pretty amusing at first. But all in all I have made some very nice German friends through my experience...so its all good!!!

Well i had some bad experiences in germany...i was born there and moved to holland when i was 7 moths old. 2 years ago i moved back there ( blaim it on my ex :-) ). i have been looking for an apprenticeship for more then 2 years!! i have send more then a 100 applications. I have recieved to be exactly 0 positiv answers.

Now i am back in holland and i applicating for the same study..and guess what...got an positiv answer 1 day after i have send the applications.

But i have to say..the people in germany are very nice allthough i will always stay the "holländer" in germany and the "duitser"in holland :-)

one thing ios for sure..the germans know how to party much better then the dutchpeople. they always have a reason to party...it doesn't matter if it's a techno party or carnaval...they are always drinking and singen :-)

An well known idiom that also many germans use is "Envy is the virtue of the Germans" ("Neid ist die Tugend der Deutschen")
