Reports on the news that 6 bombs have exploded in London, mainly on transport. 2 on London buses and also on the underground. Been watching it on the news, it does not look good :( the city is at a standstill, is thought to be terrorist attacks on the run up to G8.

My thoughts go out to the fatalities, and the injured :(

Hang in there, I know mobile networks are down due to the sheer number of people trying to call out. I hope that you have news soon.

I think its safe to say that no-one is safe from these kind of attacks. Who knows where they could strike next, we just have to be vigilant.

No-one wants to have to live through fear that something may happen.

Kittylix,

I saw on you profile that you are visiting Holland soon. I live in a short time from the E-ffect.

I hope that everything goes well with everyone in London who have a place in my heart. My sincere thoughts go out to the injured and fatalities.

I have seen to much BBC1 for know, I hope that BBC3 can give me some other thoughts this evening.

Yes we are coming to visit and see friends, and party hard ;) are you going?

Waarschuw beheerder
I would love to be there though but I am not sure sorry. If I have the time I will be there though. I will keep you informed.

Party hard is always the best thing to do... I am still lauging about the fact that English lads heared 'terror' which I had with me on minidisc. They are familiar with the 'clubsounds' and UK hardcore, rave etc... They heard it for a few seconds and thet said to me 'Are you cheesy's mad or what? ' hahaha :) Nice one!

I'm a bit worried about two of my friends in London, too. I'm hoping they're okay.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who has been affected by this. :(

its absolutely disgusting, and something has to be done...

We have the commonwealth games here next year.. i wonder what will happen then..

I hope that no one here has lost anyone in this tragedy. I just found out on one of the other boards I go to, that a woman lost her sister in one of the blasts. :(
Waarschuw beheerder
I was horrified when I heared the news
And also frightened because some friends of my parents live and or work in London...
And there also was a chance my half sister was in London at the moment of the attack, but she was already on her way back to Castleford at the time so that was a relief

Bastards! Why do they have to take innocent lives? There is no passage in the Koran that justifies that! :@
So why do they act out of the Islam? It's so unfair...

Holland will probably also get attacked somewhere in the future, I won't let it effect my live but it will always be in the back of my mind unfortunately :(

I still can't see any proof for that, except some ppl saying in the media that "we're on a list"

Only, I'm still waiting for them to offer a valid reason why. (No, it's not that we've had soldiers there, lots of other countries had that too.)

And besides, spreading panic = helping terrorism. I absolutely refuse to do that. Just see what it did to a country like the U.S. where nobody's really "free" anymore nowadays and where they use "war on terror" as an excuse for everything, even up to things like stricter abortion laws.

Offcourse there are a lot of other countries who have soldiers in the Middle East, but we, or our govnerment supported Bush from the beginning, just like Spain and the UK :/
And I also think that we will sooner be attacked by terrorists than Japan, who also supported Bush from the start.
Just because of the simple fact that there are more fundamentalist muslims here than in Asia in general.

It's not that I'm in panic, it's just that I expect something to happen someday :(
I wished that I didn't have that feeling but I do :(

Not quite.

While we *were* part of the "coalition of the willing", don't forget we were NOT one of the three instigators, i.e. the U.S., the U.K. and Spain.

So again, if we're not, why we? Why not Poland, Italy, Australia?

Just because of the simple fact that there are more fundamentalist muslims here than in Asia in general.

Now that just MUST be wrong, I'm sure ;) (and besides, not every fundamentalist is a potential terrorist)

Still no contact with the people I want though... It is getting mad because even if I heard a single thing from them I can sleep well, for know I hope for them everything is okay there.. Yesterday my phone ring and it was an unknown number, it gets of a few times and then it stopped... So I kindly hoped that it was news from the East London lads and friends.

Kitty, yeah... I ment Terror or Gabba, for me this is kind of normal personally I don't like the slow and happy tunes but they quite like it but it's new for them.. Because it's not mainstream music and not very well known in there. Underground Styles mostly came in to the UK by foreigners though I know because of the UK DJ's who had gigs in the European main land.

If everything goes well I am staying in London or Birmingham when ever needed for my work, I can live in with mates and female friends. So when needed when I want to buy in designer clobber, shoes and accesoires in the UK I can stay with them. So the period of staying there can be as long as possible. Nice one for that! But, we are getting off-topic here. So we are jumping back to the topic subject.

ON-TOPIC

I am not scarry of another attacks though because when you are scared something will happen. You can be frightened but this will take a very large place in daily living then so you can't enjoy the days anymore because at everything you do, you're thinking about 'something can happen!' 'what's in that bag thats left there' 'what does that person doing there' 'can I get the bus safely?' 'Is a suspicious person on the bus or in the tube..' If you think like this, you WILL get mad and everybody or everything is a future perpetrator.

So I say, just live on and do the daily things you would like to do! Even if this is hard to do. Just try it! Because living scared isn't gonna help you further though. Live on... be proud, be strong, be brave and they will not get you down then!

Damn you ARE right, forgot that Indonesia has the most muslims in the world :bloos:
But still, I think we have a bigger risk of an attack than Japan (I know there has been an attack on the tube there but it wasn't Al Qaida I belief), dunno why, maybe just a feeling, maybe because of all the attention in the media...

At the moment, every moron with a grief calls his organisation al-Qaeda-something-or-other... also (indeed) because of the media attention "al-Qaeda" is getting :S

In fact, you can't even be sure anymore if these things are even remotely conntected to bin Laden's organisation... ppl just use the name to get more & rapid media attention

"Why is London attacked??"

Somebody was mad at the U.K. government. Somebody was inspired by Osama bin Laden being still at large. Somebody thought: "They've had New York, they've had Madrid, they still haven't done London." Somebody was led to believe he would go to heaven for this.

That's all it takes, unfortunately :(

Like it was said on the news, it wasn't a case of "If" it was a case of "When" it would happen. It was always in the back of peoples minds.

It makes me sick to my stomach to see that there are some Fcuked up people in this world, who are intent on causing harm to innocent people.

I will never understand it :(

But we have to continue with our lives and carry on, just as many countries who are victims of terror, you can't let this take over your life...or then they have won.

Waarschuw beheerder

Contrary to what many think, harming the innocent isn't the main object of terrorism. It's having people living in fear, disrupting their daily lives (and prompting their governments to disrupt it even more afterwards), and harming the infrastructure.

Had it been about "taking lives" then the objects have been poorly chosen. Just consider the number of casualities that could have been if they really would have been bent on that :/

you can't let this take over your life...or then they have won

Exactly. If we REFUSE to live in terror (which is the only way a "war on terror" should be fought), only then terrorism will be a thing of the past.

Living in fear, harming its pretty much the same thing, you don't need to harm alot of people for others to live in fear.

They only harmed a small number yesterday, but it still causes fear.

i agree. bin laden is so irrelevant now. capturing/killing him and saying "terror is over now, we have bin laden" would be like saying, "the beatles have died, that's the end of rock music!"

the only way to stop 'terrorists' is to be understanding of one another. it's so simple. but, people will just continue to discriminate, make new laws, build new barriers and blindly escalate the problem.

And the media have a a lot of responsibility too here... in one of the Dutch topics we're discussing what would happen if the media from now on would refuse to name any terrorist organisation by name or cause (a kind of self-imposed censorship)

Taking away one of the most important reasons why (publicity for their cause) might pull a very big plug on terrorism...

Bytheway, I just saw some British ppl on TV, picking up the threads, doing their ordinary daily things again as undisrupted as possible... thumbs up for you guys! (Y)(Y)(Y)

I wouldn't be surprised if there are terror alerts all over London for the next few weeks, as there were here in America after September 11. People are bound to be a bit more on edge, and the government is less likely to discount information on potential threats.

LEEDS (Reuters) - The country was aghast on Wednesday at the possibility four young friends from England, including a tearaway teen and a cricket-mad sports graduate, carried out last week's attacks in London.

"The Boy Bombers" wrote The Sun newspaper, "Suicide bombers from suburbia" wrote the Daily Mail, of the four men suspected of killing more than 50 people in what may have been western Europe's first suicide attack.

Media reports suggested the four, who are thought to have died in the blasts on London's transport network, were British born, and aged between 19 and 30. They were said to be of ethnic Pakistani origin and three of them came from West Yorkshire.

"They were four ordinary British lads from ordinary British homes who loved football and girls... So why did they become the suicide murderers?" The Daily Mirror wondered on its front page.

Neighbours in Leeds were shocked that their young might have been responsible for the blasts.

"He was a sweet guy who gets on with everyone," said Mohamed Ansaar Riaz, 19, in The Times newspaper, of one of the four suspects, a 22-year-old sports science graduate who was said to adore football and cricket.

"He had a fantastic sense of humour and could make you laugh... The idea of him going down to London to explode a bomb is unbelievable; it is not in his nature to do something like that."

The suspect, who was said to help out in his father's fast food shop in Leeds, was described as "sound as a pound" by Azi Mohammed in The Guardian.

"I only played cricket in the park with him around 10 days ago. He is not interested in politics."

Another neighbour, who declined to be named, told ITN News that the "always smiling" sports graduate had spent two months in Afghanistan last year and four months in the Pakistani city of Lahore.

Another suspect, a 19-year-old also from Leeds, was said to have turned to religion after being a "bit wild".

"He went off the rails and his parents were very worried. They wanted to instill some discipline in him; I don't know what happened but 18 months to two years ago (the suspect) suddenly changed and became devoutly religious," a cousin was quoted in The Times as saying.

A third suspect was said to be a 30-year old married father of one and according to an unnamed member of his wife's family they had originally disapproved of him because he was not as traditional a Muslim as they would have wished.

"He does not believe in having a beard or wearing a hat. But he has always seemed a really nice guy and has never been in any trouble that I know of. He has been to Pakistan a few times but not for long periods," the in-law was quoted in the Daily Mail as saying.

Police were alerted to the existence of one of the four when his distressed family called a casualty hotline on Thursday.

Their son had been travelling to London "with his mates" and had not returned, The Guardian reported.

Police said the four men travelled to London together and newspaper reports said they were carrying military-style rucksacks containing 10 lb high-explosive bombs.

It's unbelievable! And scary too, because this will only generate more hate towards muslims in general, because these guys where normal lads, with a normal life involved with girl and in sports :O So now people might think every Muslim is capable of commiting these sort of attacks. :(

Recently converted people are often the most fanatical. But let's hope the British will be as quick finding out who masterminded the attack (I'm completely amazed how quickly they found out who did it... very well done! (Y)(Y) )
