There is some of us western foreigners who have lived in Holland for a while now. Although we want to learn the language and fit in the Dutch soceity, I think its hard because, for one everyone here speaks perfect English or German or some other language. And when we make mistakes in our Dutch they alays switch it to Enlish.....

So my question is how long have you lived here and have you learned Dutch yet???

:/
Its a brain cracker my question???!!!:D
Then i don`t get those stupid emotions. First they get answered by two Dutch and 2nd its true:yes: It took me like 3 years to finally speak the language...:S:S:S

me not speak enlish

want me to teach you? ;)
I haven't lived in the netherlands, but I speak a bit of Dutch. I've picked up most of it from conversations I've had with DarkSkywise, and now with other people I've talked to since becoming active again. I'm still hesitant about using it, because I don't want to offend or confuse anyone. Most everyone is happy to switch over to English and, if they don't, they're very patient with me.

(I also get some help from worldlingo.com and vertalen.nu -- those don't help when you're on a train to Alkmaar, though)

well, let's say that if you speak English so 'perfectly' as you write it, I can't see your audience understanding a word you're saying...

So Alexander, then why are you on the english only section? If you go to the chat section, or just the dutch forum, you'll learn to read and write dutch much faster!

of course it isn't the best possible dutch with al these illiterates on partyflock ;)

English speaking people..pronounce this for me :D

Gerrit ging groente halen bij de groenteboer

:D
haha I thought it would sound like GgGggG :D
I'm surprised you didn't pick something with "sch" in it instead. I'm not so bad with the "g" sound.

Alexander the Greek, you seem to have a dislike of English-speakers. Is this true?
Let's see, in my opinion those who move to a country and plan on staying there are obligated to pick up the language. I know a lot of people don't do that and seek others who are from the same cultural/national backgrounds and instead of learning just keep to their own languages.

Dus, nu in het nederlands, als je verhuisd naar een ander land en je bent van plan om daar te blijven, ben je eigenlijk verplicht om die taal op te pakken. :)
not to mention learning a lot of dutch on PF forums, als je het moet, komt het wel goed
I've only learned one word on the PF boards, and that one was "neuken?" :P
thats the only word you need to know :D:D:D

If I was jumping to conclusions, I wouldn't have asked -- I would merely have assumed. And no, I didn't vote for Bush -- did you jump to that conclusion from my own question? :P
