Een rund wordt in een enorm vat geleid, onder stroom gezet, en krijgt een schot tussen de ogen. Een paar tellen later bungelt hij aan zijn achterpoten, klaar om te worden verwerkt; het volgende rund staat al weer onder stroom. Duizenden zachtgele kuikentjes stuiteren op een lopende band, varkens worden in een veewagen naar het slachthuis vervoerd. Een machine met een reusachtige grijparm schudt binnen een paar tellen alle olijven uit een boom, een sproeivliegtuigje loost een lading pesticide boven een uitgestrekt veld met zonnebloemen - een fraai citaat van Hitchcocks North by Northwest. Geyrhalter gebuikt geen muziek in Our Daily Bread, geen voice-over, geen interviews, geen titels met plaats- en/of tijdbepalingen. Hij registreert alleen maar; met een feilloos oog legt de Oostenrijker de vernietigende efficiëntie vast. De repeterende beelden doen soms denken aan Modern Times, Charlie Chaplins aanklacht tegen de onmenselijke omstandigheden waarin de Amerikaanse arbeiders leefden tijdens de depressie; mensen, dieren en gewassen zijn ondergeschikt aan de logistiek van de voedselproductie. De fraaie, symmetrische shots van het productieproces worden doorsneden met beelden van pauzerende arbeiders: een vrouw in een blauw plastic schort die haar meegebrachte boterhammen opeet, het lopend buffet in het bedrijfsrestaurant van de slachterij. Our Daily Bread is pure poëzie; de speciale juryprijs voor Geyrhalters 'food for thought' op het IDFA in 2005 is terechte lof.

The information sourced in this report was sent to us in way of a ‘photocopy’ from work conducted by a group of Chemists (old friends) whose extra-curricular academic activity includes exploration into cannabis compounds. Likewise the people that forwarded this information over wanted to release this information now for the benefit of the Medi Cannabis Community. Many thanks to all those involved.

In a nutshell, different compounds within the chemical profile of cannabis are released into the atmosphere (and human body) at different levels of temperature. Vaporizing is a modern way of inhaling the most active ingredients of cannabis without combustion, smoke or fire. As the air surrounding the cannabis flower rises in temperature the active compounds within cannabis are released. In theory by controlling the vaporizer temperature setting smokers are able to inhale different cannabis compounds in relative isolation to the other cannabis compounds.

The resin that surrounds cannabis flowers contains more than 200 separate chemical compounds depending on individual cultivar - each of which produces a very different medicinal effect. These chemical compounds are associated with the smell, taste, flavour, the stickiness and toxicity of the plant material at varying ages. In this report we shall look at only 6 of the 40 known cannabinoids within cannabis:




?-9-tetrahydro-cannabinol (THC) is the compound in cannabis that gives smokers the classic ‘high’ effect. However in humans THC also acts as a Analgesic, Anti-inflammatory, Antioxidant, Antiemetic and Euphoriant. Temperature setting 157c

Cannabidinol (CBD) is one of the compounds within cannabis that provides medicinal cannabis users with a mental sense of wellbeing and ease. CBD is a Anxiolytic, Analgesic, Antipsychotic, Anti-inflammatory, Antioxidant, and Antispasmodic. Temperature setting 160 - 180c

Cannabinol (CBN) is a complex compound. CBN acts as an Oxidization Breakdown Product when consumed by humans, as a Sedative, and as an Antibiotic. Temperature setting 185c

Cannabichrome (CBC) is the often unmentioned compound. CBC holds Anti-inflammatory, Antibiotic, and Antifungal properties. Temperature setting 220c

Cannabigcrol (CBG) is another relatively unknown compound. CBG likewise holds Anti-inflammatory, Antibiotic, and Antifungal properties. Temperature setting 220c

Tetrahydro-cannabivarin (THCV) is the compound within cannabis that gives smokers a ‘rush’ or immediate ‘up’ effect. THCV is an Analgesic and Euphoriant. Temperature setting -220c


The temperature settings above are compatible with the ‘Volcano Vaporizer’ (see Medi Vapor Chart for # settings). A Volcano Vaporizer unit was therefore used while testing the hypothesis in this report.

So, we had the ‘Medi Vapor Chart’ in one hand, a flower of cannabis from Magus Genetics in the other, and a Volcano Vaporizer on the table in front of us. Our host proceeded to switch on the big silver vaporizer device and explain how it worked. Then they broke the dried flower down into the herb portal, dialed the temperature setting to 155c (approx.) and placed the collection bag over the top of the device. A green light was switched on and the bag was slowly filled up with THC vapor. Once filled with vapor the device was switched off. We then shared the vapor bag between us.

The Heist was shown on 4 January 2006 at 21:00, on Channel 4. In the show, Derren Brown used his skills on selected participants who answered an ad. "Under the guise of a motivational seminar" (where they would allegedly learn Derren Brown's skills) Brown eventually got participants to rob a security van - in what was ultimately an elaborate set up. The robbery involved holding up a security van and guard (played by an actor) with a realistic-looking toy pistol that Brown had given them earlier, and taking a case filled with real money from him. Four people were selected to carry out the robbery from an initial field of thirteen, with three of them actually carrying out the "robbery". The idea was that after the conditioning they received, they would voluntarily rob the van of their own accord. There was no mention of the 'crime' to the participants, and they were not (directly) instructed to do it. The three that did it did so as a result of the conditioning and their own choice, not instructions from any third party including Brown.

Brown associated colour, music and phrases to build the participants into a highly-motivated state, converging all of those psychological empowerment tools into a single set up. The seminar subliminally anchored freedom, childhood, opportunity and romance into various criminal acts. After having previously been convinced to steal sweets from a shop based in Codicote High Street in Hertfordshire (for real), they were shown the euphoria that could be gained from criminal acts.

This programme also contained a re-enactment of the Milgram experiment carried out by Stanley Milgram in the 1960s with the aim of selecting four of the most obedient of the group. 65% of the subjects in this experiment were willing to administer lethal electric shocks to another person on the instruction of an authoritative figure (unbeknown to the subjects, the electric shocks were not actually real); these were the same results as Milgram himself found.
