Rik Watts

Rik's initial involvement with electronic music started in the early 90's with his passion for hardcore. During this time Rik was travelling the world whilst working for the Dutch Navy and therefore came into contact with a variety of early electronic music. It was at this point that Rik discovered his passion for techno.
In 2006 Rik entered his first DJ-ing competition, the 'Twstd DJ Contest' in Amsterdam and progressed to the last round of 14 in whichhe performed at Club Paradiso in Amsterdam. Shortly after Rik entered a local DJ contest in his hometown Delft at Club Speakers which he won. In the same year Rik sent his first demo mix to Partyflock which then got selected by Bart Skills as the 'Best Newcomer' entry and resulted in Ri kDJ-ing at Flockers in the Arnhem Gelredome.
Leading on from this success Rik started hosting his own 'Funck You' parties. As his sound became more recognised he found himself performing at larger clubs such as Speakers in Delft and Mozaiq in OudBeijerland. In 2009 Rik enrolled at the School of Audio Engineering in Rotterdam where he took thecourse Electronic Music Production and started to formulate his own blend of techno music.
Rik graduated in 2009 and went on to release his first EP on Phat Elephant in 2010. Since then he has performed at club'The Hall' in Istanbul and 'Smeerboel' festival in Utrecht and one of his releases was used as the soundtrack for the official promotional video of 'Welcome to the Future' festival 2011. Towards the end of 2011 Rik performed several DJ sets in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Scheveningen and had a major release on Lowend Community, which was supported by Slam &Hermanez.
At the beginning of 2012 Rik signed up with Subculture Agency in Utrecht. This gave him a number of gigs that have introduced him further into the scene and thus gained more interest from the Dutch Techno scene. By the end of 2012 he was asked to think of a club concept which would re-boost the scene in The Netherlands. With him taking on this challenge and opportunity, he psyched the organisation with his idea which has now resulted in the launch of the new Techno concept 'FOON' on 14 December 2013. Rik Watts will be Resident DJ which obviously will uplift his career even more. Starting 2014 he will be performing as an artist more again with plenty of new projects that should not be missed.
