Biografie
·EarthGang is an American hip-hop duo from Atlanta, Georgia, composed of Olu (aka Johnny Venus; born Olu Onyemachi Dakarai Fann) and WowGr8 (aka Doctur Dot; born Eian Undrai Parker). The pair met in high school and formed EarthGang in 2008, aiming to create music that reflects their diverse influences and the vibrant culture of Atlanta. They are also co-founders of the musical collective Spillage Village, alongside artists like JID, 6lack, and Mereba.
EarthGang's early work includes the EP The Better Party (2010) and mixtapes Mad Men and Good News (2011). Their debut album, Shallow Graves for Toys (2013), received praise for its inventive lyricism and genre-blending sound. This was followed by Strays with Rabies (2015), further establishing their reputation for pushing musical boundaries.
In 2017, EarthGang signed with J. Cole's Dreamville Records and released a trilogy of EPs: Rags, Robots, and Royalty. These projects showcased their versatility and set the stage for their major-label debut album, Mirrorland (2019). Inspired by the film The Wiz, Mirrorland is a vibrant homage to Atlanta, blending funk, soul, and hip-hop elements.
Their subsequent album, Ghetto Gods (2022), continued to explore themes of spirituality and self-discovery, featuring collaborations with artists like Future, JID, and Musiq Soulchild. In 2024, they released Perfect Fantasy, further cementing their place in the hip-hop landscape.
Beyond music, EarthGang is committed to social and environmental causes. They established the EarthGang Foundation in 2022 to address issues like food insecurity and climate change in Atlanta. Olu also launched a wellness brand, COMPXSS, promoting mindfulness and health education.
Known for their eclectic style and dynamic performances, EarthGang continues to challenge conventions and inspire audiences with their innovative approach to hip-hop.
