Biografie
Jah Works label was founded by Rej Forte and has been producing and releasing quality Roots Reggae music for over 25 years. Over this time the label has earned a reputation for the quality of it's output and the integrity of it's message. The Jah Works label has developed its own distinctive sound and yet remains diverse in it's music and productions. A wide array of artists have recorded with the label.
Initally set up in 1988, Jah Works first release was the critically acclaimed and now highlky sought after 'Foundation' and 'Foundation In Dub' compilation which included artists such as GT Moore, MArtin Campbell, Dub The Earth, RDF, Donette Forte, Aqua Levi and others.
Full artists albums by Martin Campbell ('The Dream Is Over') and Donette Forte ('Wilderness') established Jah Works at a very early stage of what was to become an explosion of Sound System reggae in the UK. (Campbells' 'Wicked Rule' track being a particular favourite at the dances).
Whilst continuing to release vinyl 7s and 12s, Rej set about producing British Reggae pioneer GT Moore under the pseudonym 'The Outsider' and created an in-house studio band called The Dub Crusaders, culminating in another two album releases.
In 1994, Jah Works set up its own independent studio space in Newbury, Berkshire, called Seventh Sense Studio. A new wave of productions and artists were presented in the compilations 'Messages & Dubs from the Seventh Sense'. Rej performed Jah Works material live regularly as the Jah Works Outernational and also built a strong group of UK session musicians around him that became known as the Seventh Sense Band, that performed as backing to Jah Works artists at live gigs.
Other notable artist albums recorded at Seventh Sense for Jah Works include, Albaroots 'Pick It Up' & 'Natures Fire', GT Moore's 'Ganja Flower', UK Players 'Take Heed' and Hornsman Coyotes 'Brass Roots'. A number of vinyl releases were also dropped for sound system shaking, such as Mene Mans 'Who are You?' & ' Save This World', GT Moore's 'Turn Israel' and Idren Naturals 'Sip-a-Cup' The studio was closed in 2009, when Rej relocated operations to Belgium working with the GreenTongue crew and Irie Vibes Band at a studio built and developed in the quiet town of Handzame- Home of the Irie Vibes Reggae Festival.
Since relocating to Belgium, Jah Works and GreenTongue have released the 'Outernational Roots' compilations, I Man T's 'Life' and two albums from Teddy Dan (Live in Beljam & Message from Ethiopia). Continued Sound System dates keep Jah Works travelling, and the Irie Vibes Band with Jah Rej on the mix have showcased Jah Works material at festivals around Europe, most notably with I Man T, Hornsman Coyote and Teddy Dan from Ethiopia.
Jah Rej is cuuently resident at Earthworks Studio (Amstermam), so look out for a new phase of Jah Works productions hitting the airwaves.
