Charman

When your dream is to reach out to people and inspire them through sound, it's time to start living it!
Charman's (real name Rodney de Jong) love for music started at a very early age. When he was 3 years old, he already had a vinyl record in his hands. Not a big surprise because music always played a major role in his family. His uncle is a professional singer in a band, and other family members were collecting long playing records.

While listening to different styles of music during his youth, he created –big- interest in underground music. Also, the lofi hip-hop tunes got his attention. Nowadays Charman play minimal & tech house, so history repeats. Charman decided to buy his first professional dj-gear at a very early age; with help from his father, he bought his first dj-set when he was only 7 years old!

This was the start of the next phase: the beginning of Charman's DJ-career! He played, tried different things, failed, tried again and again and again. Charman kept practising and was unstoppable. At a certain time, even the neighbours were dancing in front of Charman's childhood house! Charman was not only working from home. When he was a bit older, he started to follow music lessons. Charman fell in love with drums, and especially the djembé. The djembé is a rope-tuned drum you can play with bare hands, and is originally from West Africa. It can produce a wide variety of sounds, making it a most versatile drum. These versatile drums brought Charman to the next step: producing music!

Together with a good friend, Charman discovered the digital music producing program FL Studio. With this software, he started to produce his own music. After 3 years of hard work and producing several tracks, he bought new studio monitors and synthesizers. While things get serious in the studio, other things also get serious…

At the age of 16 Charman did his first official DJ gig. First he played at many school parties, but a year later the moment was there: his first booking in a "real" club! Charman won a DJ contest and played in S.U.R. This contest was a breakthrough moment: he became resident in "the basement" of S.U.R. Things went fast, and his dream came true to play in Rotterdam's finest underground club Toffler. During this period, he also finished the study MPA training mixing mastering.

When you are reading this biography, Charman played in many great clubs and released several tracks. He still spends lots of time in the studio to release new music to get support from labels and other inspiring DJ's. Charman's style can be described from minimal to house to tech-house with the deeper sounds
