Biografie
Little did Emma Isabella (once known as White Lie) know, in the winter of 2014, that her life would take a drastic turn--one that filled her life with records aplenty. Her homeland, Sweden, is known for its progressive stance on gender equality and the testosterone-filled atmosphere of Berlin's music scene needed a gentle yet firm nudge. That is how what started as a mere pastime became a life of selecting tracks and curating events.
Month after month, her record collection never ceases to grow, ranging from disco and boogie to 80's synth lines, post-punk, darkwave, electro and even esoteric--a style she sometimes playfully describes as Wicca-jazz--weaving threads and telling stories, finding meaning through the ages and the most hidden of sounds. She has spread these stories on the waves of Rinse France or Le Mellotron, but what she enjoys above all is making them resonate on dancefloors across Berlin and Europe. From the decks at about//:blank to the clubs of Copenhagen, and from Bucharest back to Renate, the bar is set high, and each set demonstrates an acute sense of the crowd and a diverse yet consistent taste in music.
Lately, Emma Isabella has also started curating events and booking DJs who match her eclectic and tasteful range, such as Louise Chen, the Parisian founder of Girls Girls Girls, or the London-based NTS host Ruby Kwasiba Savage. These events are part of a series at Sameheads Berlin, Dear Dancers Disco Club, and showcase female-identifying DJs: a wink to how it all started.
