Biografie
·Remember how music used to get into your mind, body and soul? Well Shirma has taken herself to new heights by taking on the music of the queen of soul Aretha Franklin. Who has been one of her all time favorite singers since early childhood.
The artistic producer of the Metropole Orkest and friend, Gert-Jan Bol, gave Shirma the dvd of Aretha live in The Concert Gebouw 1968 as a gift. After seeing the dvd Shirma was fascinated by the person Aretha Franklin. So she started reading up on her life and music career. After a year of listening to and reading about Aretha Shirma decided to dedicate her second album to the Queen of Soul.
Her talent for music has been nurtured at an early age. Her family played an important role in developing her talent. Her father, a well-known instrumentalist, was one of her biggest inspirations. Accompanying her grandmother to church and singing in church would form, unknown to her, the steps towards her current career.
Born on the island of Curacao and raised on the island of
St.Eustatius, it is in the Netherlands where she would build her 10
year musical career.
Her introduction to the Dutch music scene
started off when she was asked to become a backing vocalist of the group Tasha's World, moving on to performing, recording and touring with a wide range of artists from every genre. Chaka Khan, Micheal Bolton, Metropole Orkest, Intwine, Extince, Wouter Hamel,Candy Dulfer, Alain Clark, Anouk, Glennis Grace, Randal Corsen, Tribute 2 Bob Marley, Carlo de Wijs.
She has shared her talent and love for music with them and many
more.
