Gabbersound was created in Rotterdam in 1992. Before that time there had been some "Underground"

music which we indeed can now label as gabber. In these early days a lot of supporters from Feyenoord

(the old vak R) with their bold heads were known to love this new gabbersound.
Before the matches against Ajax most of these Feyenoord supporters were shouting:

" Amsterdam, waar lech dat tan ?" It was not surprising that a after a short time the Euromasters

made a gabbertrack called " Amsterdam,waar lech dat tan ? " The little Midtown Records Shop at the Nieuwe Binnenweg in Rotterdam was theplace to buy gabbermusic. After a while the local radio in Rotterdam (Stads Radio Rotterdam) began broadcasting the first hardcore programm ever: Turbulentie.


Most popular tracks in this period were " Alles naar de klote ", " Amsterdam, waar lech dat tan ?" ,"Rotterdam, ech wel" andtracks from Holy Noise and later also DJ Hooligan. Tracks from the Euromasters "Alles naar de klote" and Holy Noise's (DJPaul) " The nightmare " even got to the top of the charts. Gabbermusic was becoming very popular, especially in Rotterdam. At that time the gabbermusic was mainly related with football supporters and the "gabbers" were at one time even categorized bythe media as dancing hooligans. (Just another stupid categorization and generalization by the media). After this initial period gabbermusic became more than only music, it became a lifestyle. For quite a long time true gabbers could only be found in Rotterdam. De main gabberparties also took place in Rotterdam. DJ Paul, Rotterdammer and true Feyenoord supporter, was much respected by every gabber at that time.


After quite some time the gabbersound became also popular outside Rotterdam. The Hague was one of the first cities to cath up with Rotterdam. Amsterdam-nightlife was until that time mainly Mellow, although ID&T were located near Amsterdam. Rotterdam and The Hague DJ's were spreading the gabber music and the lifestyle all over the Netherlands.DJ Paul was the main distributor / missioner of the gabbersound. Much later DJ Paul also went producing non-gabber records. Many gabbers felt "betrayed" by him. True gabbers went on respecting him for the things he had done.


Around 1994 lot of Dutch DJ's did some performances in Germany, as a result of which they became influenced by the German "Rave" music. This was also a style of (relatively fast) housemusic, but with more melodies inside. After a while the gabber, or house music in general, evolved into different styles: Gabber (hardcore), Happy Hardcore, Trance, Hardtrance, Mellow/Club. However, no rigid borders could be drawn between the styles.


In 1997 gabber music is still alive and many are saying that " HARDCORE WILL NEVER DIE ".
