The party goes on online!
Berlin. Berlin's clubs, organizers and artists show solidarity with each other and start a joint streaming platform on Wednesday, March 18, to draw attention to a fundraising campaign. In cooperation with arte concert and radioeins, Berlin's clubs will open their virtual doors daily to offer a program lasting several hours. Participants are kindly asked to make donations.
Berlin's club culture is facing the biggest challenge in its history. On Friday, March 13th, the intere Berlin nightlife was officially shut down to prevent the spreading of the Coronavirus. This means that more than 9,000 employees and tens of thousands of artists are now suddenly without employment and the many places that are part of Berlin's identity are on the brink of ruin. In response to the fact that the clubs in Berlin are closed and the rest of the world is in quarantine, Berlin's clubs, organizers and artists support each other and launch the world's biggest digital club on Wednesday, March 18, at www.unitedwestream.berlin.
Contributions from different clubs run online every day from 7 p.m. In addition to live broadcasts of DJ sets, live music and performances, the platform will also offer talks, lectures and films on club culture topics.
#UnitedWeStream is an initiative by the Berlin Clubcommission and the campaign platform Reclaim Club Culture. We are grateful to have won the renowned TV channel arte concert, radio station radioeins and the Berlin label SUOL as cooperating partners for providing and maintaining the streaming technology. betterplace.org provides its platform for fundraising. Visitors to the site will be asked for a voluntarily donation and in return receive a "virtual club ticket". The income from the streams goes to a fundraising fund for social hardship cases which can be used to support clubs and artists suffering from the coronavirus quarantine. For the distribution of these funds, the Clubcommission Berlin e.V. developed a catalog of criteria and has assigned an independent jury.
In addition, 8 percent of the proceeds go to the "Foundation for Civil Sea Rescue" whose clear and transparent eligibility criteria enable a fast allocation of funds to NGOs in Greece and civil sea rescue in the Mediterranean. In doing so, we show an additional sign of solidarity: It is not just about us – many people are in need of solidarity!
