The history of Huis de Voorst starts with Arnold Joost van Keppel, the son of a landed gentry who was presented by his father as squire at the Court of King Stadhouder Willem III who had taken up residence at his sparkling new Palace Het Loo in Apeldoorn. The powerful Stadhouder, husband (widower) of Mary Stuart (died 1692) and King of England, was charmed by Van Keppel who became his favourite. Thus Arnold Joost van Keppel acquired the title of the Count of Albemarle and Baron of Ashford and was able in 1695 to commission the architects of Het Loo, Roman and Marot, to build a smaller yet majestic replica of the royal Palace Het Loo on his ancestral estate in Eefde.
The magnificent palace soon acquired the name of "Versailles of the Achterhoek" and came to be used as a "Lieu de Plaisance" for Albemarle and the King Stadhouder to entertain many an exalted guest. We are immensely honoured and proud of the glorious legacy of this outstanding monument and the fact that we basically use the building for exactly the same purpose it was originally intended for, i.e. to provide a luxurious, stylish and romantic venue for galas, festivities and celebrations.
More specifically, the Country Estate "Huis De Voorst" offers for a unique opportunity to combine all aspects of the wedding organization: celebration, consecration, reception, dinner, party and accommodation all hosted under one roof at the Castle without the stress of moving from one location to another. The romantic atmosphere and elegant architecture combined with stylish interiors and welcoming staff create a perfect blend for a great feast.
Among the many stylish rooms of the "Huis De Voorst" is the King's Room with its fireplace and view of the rear gardens. The Countess Room with its French doors affording view and access to the English landscape gardens, the sumptuous library with bar, the classical and tastefully furnished Henry Purcell room with its numerous wall mirrors and candelabras, and the magnificent Van Albemarle Bar in the vaulted cellars appointed in bottle green associated with Old English pharmacies. On the premises you will also find a stylish hotel with tastefully decorated suites (all equipped with a kitchenette) and a luxury apartment measuring 160 sqm, with total capacity of 126 person accommodation, which you can book combined with an event at Huis de Voorst or separately if you want to simply spend a night at the Estate.
