Ami Bios

Mensen ik moest een pc repareren voor een oud-collega van mij.
De harde schijf bleek kapot, dus ik een nieuwe harde schijf gekocht,...(Western Digital 40 GB 7200 rpm ATA 133) wordt ie niet herkend.
Oke Bios flashen dan maar, dit is best een probleem. Het is voor een MS 6168 Ver:2 Moederbord met een Ami Bios.
En ik heb gelezen dat je dan heel simpel de Ami Bios kan omzetten naar een Award en dat het dan moet werken. Maar goed dat gaat dus niet. Het flash proggie zegt dat het bestand te groot is, en dan zou ik dat moeten negeren (las ik) maar ik kan het niet negeren.
"Press Any key to continiue" staat er dan, maar dan gaat ie niet verder

Wie kan mij helpen aan de laatste AMI Bios voor een MS 6168 Ver:2??
Of moet het toch kunnen op deze manier?

ik weet ff niet of hy hier in staat, maar doe's een gok. en hy staat niet gewoon op de AMI-BIOS site?

-edit- nou op die site staat hy dus niet niet (volgens my)

ik heb mijn bios upgrade gewoon van de AMI site afgetrokken

ik zal ff voor je kijken...

als je je bios probeert up te daten
en dat lukt niet 100%, dan is alles naar de klote!
dus probeer het zonder update eerst

ach welnee Mike! als het de verkeerde is zal je pc nog wel opstarten maar niet alles zal werken, dan gooi je gewoon weer de oude er op en !

als je nou reset of de stroom valt uit dan ben je wel de lul

Ja dat is idd degene die ze mij hadden aan geraden met een daarbij horende Flash Utility
Hij werkt dus niet en geeft een de melding "file is too large Press Any key to continiue" moet ik iets instellen zodat ik er wel overheen kan ofzo (jumper of iets)?

Dit was de hele opdracht wat ik eerst heb geprobeerd, en met idd dat zelfde file-tje:

**MSI MS6168 with AMI Bios**

This board was manufactured with two different BIOS's - Packard Bell's MS 6168 was released with the AMI bios. It has a limitation of up to 64GB. Anything over that will freeze the system.
However, MSI also released this motherboard with an Award Bios (you can download the manual here) and they have an update that enables you to install a hard drive larger than the 64GB limitation.
I have outlined the process below of how to enable support for larger hard drives on motherboards with an AMI Bios.

Several people had mentioned that they had flashed the bios to Award. This puzzled me quite a bit, as no one really explained how to do it step by step. So I went about trying it myself.

1. You download the latest Award bios from the MSI site (AWARD BIOS FILE and also the AMI Flash Utility (AMI FLASH).

2. You make a bootdisk with just three files: Command.com, Award.Bios.File (that you downloaded), AmiFlash.Utility (that you downloaded).
I removed all major components just to be on the safe side, then booted from the floppy disk with the above three files.
Write the Award Bios File name on a piece of paper as it will help when you have to type it in to flash the bios in the steps below.

3. At the a prompt load the AmiFlash Utility and simply follow the instructions to flash the bios, but using the Award file.
Now it does come up with a warning that the bios file does not match/is incorrect size, but you just press ok or accept that - if you don't you won't flash your bios and you'll be right back where you started.
You may be asked to save the old bios file, which you can do aswell.

4. Soon enough you should get a message to reboot and you're done! You should now be rebooting into an Award Bios, that supports hard drives over 64GB!

Nope het is gewoon een grafisch proggie en dan kun je die bios laden die je op diskette hebt.

daar boven staat:

File Format:- [pathfile.ect]

Ik tik daar gewoon dat bestand in met het hele path.
Moet ik niet een 1 of andere jumper omzetten dat ie niet write protect is ofzo want ik vind dit heel raar...

ik heb nog nooit en moederbord gezien waar ik een jumper om moest zetten om de bios te flashen (ik zeg dus niet dat dit niet bestaat maar ik ben het nog niet tegengekomen)

kijk anders nog 's op die site die ik net gaf, daar staan allemaal tips wat je ook van te voren moet doen, misschien staat daar iets tussen...

Oke ik zoek nog wel ffies

en het is wel een MSI board???

Oke ik heb daar dus naar gezocht,..nu HOOP ik heel erg dat ik er overheen gekeken heb!!
Ik ben nu op mn stage dus ik kijk vanmiddag even.

en ik ga ff die pagina bekijken

heb de pagina ff gewijzigt, ik zat bij award, maar er is nu een ami page van gemaakt

Wat mij opvalt is dat je met een Award bios juist harddrives van meer dan 64 GB kan gebruiken. Zoals ik het lees (je hebt een 40 GB) harddrive is dat helemaal niet belangrijk voor je.

Kan het probleem niet ergens anders in zitten? (Defecte IDE controller, verkeerde instelling jumpers, kabels etc.)

Nope ik heb werkelijk alles getest, en omdat ik verder niets kon vinden heb ik dat geprobeerd.

Maar goed het is nu dus opgelost,...ik ben er achter gekomen dat ik dus die schijf op 16 Hz kan laten draaien doormiddel van een jumper op de Master en de Slave te zetten.
Ik doe dit en het werkt Ben em nu helemaal aan het installeren.
