Biografie
The 48-year-old musical centipede DJ Poeleck running literally and figuratively for quite some years. Born in Krefeld Michael Cranen, or DJ Poeleck, began his musical career as a breakdancer during the rise of hip-hop culture in the 80s and since then has always been involved with music. His musical background is as wide as his music and turn knowledge. He shares the stage regularly with famous artists such as DJ Jean, Michel de Hey and Jack Sparrow and many others, but is just as happy with talent on stage. In Arnhem, he can often be found in the LUXOR LIVE &Many other places
When did you start running and what developments have you experienced? Like artist "My first memory that something to do with turning and has music goes back to my childhood. When I was a year or nine I turned on a school camp. Really turn you could not call it, but I thought it was already great to be with music. Busy At home we listened to lots of music. Elvis, Doe Maar, Michael Jackson, all the classics from the scarves, sweatbands and buttons era. Where it all began. "
Fast forward to the 80's; the emergence of b-boying, breakdance, electro and the emergence of hip-hop.
B-boying "I was captivated by the b-boying. All these elements were combined in this culture were something magical. Around 1983 I was busy with breakdance and everything that came. With aerosols tag to promote yourself and your own crew in the city all those things. It was really totally new in the Netherlands. Because I was with friends and doing a lot of us were really a kind of pioneers. We rumbled what not to, what we did was really breakdance high level. I did breakdance shows in the streets of Venray with my homies. Such undeniably large ghetto blaster there, pieces of cardboard or tarp on the floor and go! That was really a time of great excitement and hang out together. All this time I was too much involved in music, check new records in the record store, and since 1986 also run in Jeugdsoos OJC Dingus in Venray. We also rehearsed the way hiphop Legal Dope. I remember exactly what were the first records I bought: Run DCM - Tricky, Beat Street, Electro 1.
Around 1986 hiphop really got a foothold in the Netherlands. In those years I worked as a breakdancer in the new hiphop Legal Dope from Venray. We were working as a collective truly innovative and that did not go unnoticed. We worked with other pioneers such Extince, Dope Posse, Traumatic, Rhyme Animals, 24K, Urban Dance Squad and many other crews and artists. "
House "Around 1987 was truly upcoming house. It was for me personally really a logical next musical step. House had and has such tremendous energy and appeal. Through my international experience and contacts as a breakdancer it was not long before I could run. Venues all For years I traveled a huge amount and share. My love for music with thousands of people
Then at around 1996, the drum 'n bass came up again, I was in love with a music genre. Drum 'n bass has for me about the same energy as a house. Mid 90's I took most of my drum 'n' bass records from England. A friend had a truck driver who drove to England and ordered the plates took boxes full. Even when I was hanging around a lot in the record stores. In the beginning drum 'n bass was just as delicious raw as the earlier house. It was uncharted territory. I still love the older neuro and jungle sound. Those early years were great, but I feel that sank the drum 'n bass scene after a bit in terms of sound, although there were also for me still peaks between '97 and '99. When I first heard the Dutch Noisia I really got a big flashback to the early days. The rawness, the vibe, everything was right. "
How would you describe yourself as a DJ and how do you see the contemporary dance world? "A musical centipede, a musical centipede, haha. I have the emergence of almost all electronic music genres experienced from the roots. I can describe myself a bit like a DJ Mozart. Mozart also drew largely inspired by pieces of earlier composers and built this forward without his own ideas about music from losing sight. Something I do. My preference is for vinyl but now I turn it with CDs and digital files. At home I have so many original boards are thousands. So many older tracks are to this day still fresh and relevant. I just turn into a mix of newer songs. And not because it can, but because it sounds.
I've always tried to do, from turning to organizing parties everything yourself. I would also describe myself as oldschool, musically I like to stay at the core of the product. I really do mix feeling. For me there are two kinds of musical feeling, a gut feeling and a head feeling. The main feeling is that euphoric mood that you can get. Music The gut feeling is simply the bass for me. Mixing is for me to get two kinds of feeling on one line.
The music has always been a turbulent world. Still, I think that nowadays a rather individualistic world has become where everyone wants to differentiate itself. I do not understand. Urge that discernment It seems just about every person to go more than what they are doing musically. I mentioned earlier that I used with a hip-hop band was quite innovative working in the Netherlands. Something did we collectively. Nothing no ego but together to discover new things and actively seeking cooperation. I miss that nowadays often. "
You've already played at many places. Where would you ever want to run? "Phew, tough question. Anyway look at Fabrik in London and at the Outlook Festival in Croatia. And closer to home in the SNAP drum 'n bass parties in the Effenaar in Eindhoven, Deep Cutz in Waalhalla, Forms in Arnhem and Subway in Rotterdam. They always know where to put down. Oily lineup I'm very much open mind. I want to run anywhere on earth. Just another nice lot of traveling and turning combine festivals spinning in clubs.
With whom would you ever want to go? Organizational or musical collaboration "At the organizational level, it seems to me once cool to work together. Deep Cutz Their best known for a long time to organize where I have a good feeling. Tremendously good parties In terms of music would you can always call me for a collaboration with Andy C, Noisia, Teebee, Dom & Roland, Mindcsape, Technical Itch, Calyx, Audio and Black Sun Empire. "Wake
Money just does not matter. Which artist you would be the first book on your own party? "Teebee and Calyx, no doubt."
Your house is on fire and you have the chance to save. 3 sheets What you save from the flames? "Oh shit, that would really be a nightmare! Anyhow Beat Street, Electro Vol 1, LTJ Bukem - Earth Volume Two and Boogie Down Productions - Criminal Minded ".
You yourself organizer Bassmend celebrations in Arnhem and Venray. Can you talk about this some more? "Bassmend really focuses on drum 'n bass and dubstep. I see many party concepts that are too full, you know? All kinds of bass-oriented music together. I personally prefer to pick one thing and work well. One of the goals of Bassmend is to showcase the quality that the genres of drum 'n bass and dubstep to offer and maintain. Arnhem is really a drum 'n bass city. Look at organizations like Forms that for years know big parties to put down. Bassmend want to contribute to keep. Drum 'n bass alive
Of course we want to give young new talent the chance to run. I like that a bit older, but if I organize parties, I would always give young talent a chance to turn around and show themselves. They are the future. That people can in the future expect Bassmend. We are always looking for new talent. I would also like it if we are also able to cooperate with other organizations. "

Finally, do you have any tips for people who want to start running or starting a DJ? "Practice, practice and more practice. If you really have little experience I would recommend to run the same two plates with the same track so. And then listen well and beat match until you almost can dream. Those track That's how I started. It is important that you can listen. Not only the size, you should also be able to hear the atmosphere. When you're mixing and you get goose bumps that moment, you know you're on the right track.
When run with CDs is it I think is a good idea to run with vinyl if it's just to give it a try. I think you all feeling and idea must have. Behind vinyl just experienced this It is also important to occasionally just good to go. On your face You learn from. As a DJ being you should never look where the grass is greener. That you can only bring doubt. Believe in yourself and your passion for music, that's the most important thing.
