Claydrum & EPM now delve deeper into the depth of techno with a duo made up of Blawan & Pariah playing live as Karenn, Mistress & Hush label owner DVS1, and Hessle Audio’s Pangaea will be supported by Claydrum residents Dubiosity, Storm, Tommen, Peril, & Fowlk. A night not to be missed, fit for a King !
Blawan & Pariah formed the production duo Karenn at the end of 2011. Specialising in dense slabs of heavy, mutating techno tracks for the floor, this gruesome twosome have become the leading lights of UK techno's resurgence. Debuting with the first release on their imprint Works The Long Nights (also known as Sheworks), which has quickly become one of the essential buy-on-sight labels around, Karenn's productions are rivaled only by their incendiary hands-on hardware based live sets.“There are no computers, just the machines we use to make music. We come from the sense that we're bringing the studio outside. It's following quite a long tradition of techno played live” says Blawan in his interview with Resident Advisor. Both London based producers Jamie Roberts aka Blawan & Arthur Cayzer aka Pariah, have both released on legendary Belgian label R&S establishing them both as two of the most exciting talents to emerge from the UK in recent years. Both are also associated with Pangaea, Ben UFO & Pearson Sounds label, Hessle Audio.
Cayzer's R&S outings - 'Detroit Falls', 'Safehouses' and 'Rift' - showcase a variety of styles that have won him wide acclaim in a relatively short period of time. Looking through Pariah's discography it's clear to see that he favours a quality above quantity ethos, making each release or remix an essential acquisition for the long-term.
Former drummer Robert’s early release with Hessle Audio has endeared him to the UK bass contingent, a world where he's had perhaps his two biggest hits with the self released "Getting Me Down" and his release on Joy Orbison’s label Hinge Finger ‘His He She & She’ with the track "Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage". Since then he has started his own label Ternesc which to date has been an outlet only for his own music.
DVS1 has gained a highly-respected reputation for his versatile skills, infectious energy and physical power behind the turntables. As a resident DJ of Berlin’s infamous Berghain / Panorama Bar, he moves floors of the world’s most prestigious and best venues crafting the art of DJing through always being in the mix, pushing his own boundaries and sensitively reacting to the people’s energy. After his first releases on Klockworks and Transmat, he was not only introduced to a bigger audience but also created a strong fellowship for his own imprints: While HUSH showcases DVS1’s love for deep, purist techno and only his music, Mistress Recordings reflects his wide range as a beat and rhythm addict presenting some of his secret weapons that touch all corners of the dance floor and beyond. With a combination of deep musical knowledge, unparalleled enthusiasm, and a vinyl collection of more than 30,000 records, DVS1 is also renowned as an outspoken defender of underground’s true values that established the American DJ, producer and label owner as a truly exceptional character of today’s contemporary electronic music scene.
Pangaea makes electronic dance music that draws its energy from the bleeding edges between sounds. Steering clear of the self-perpetuating feedback loops that often exist within established scenes, his tracks instead express the elusive and innovative qualities that characterise club genres in their infancy. In 2007 Pangaea established the Hessle Audio label along with Ben UFO and Pearson Sound, which has expanded over the years to become a unique and pioneering force in modern club music. The label's ethos is simple: to draw together original and boundary-pushing music not being represented elsewhere. As a trio they've been at the forefront of a scene that's accelerated at an unprecedented rate, making their enviable ability to stay ahead of the curve all the more impressive with a roster that boasts the indisputable talents of James Blake, Peverelist, Blawan and more.
Pangaea's productions and DJ sets have continually expanded to encompass a growing diversity of influences, reaching outward to integrate techno, house and jungle into their rhythmic axis. The resulting music is an incendiary hybrid rooted in UK hardcore traditions, as can be heard on the fabriclive.73 mix and latest EP for his own Hadal imprint.
