BILLY NASTY: From the man who mixed the inaugural volume of the seminal ‘Journeys By DJs’ series, gaining him entry into the Guinness book of records for being the first DJ to produce a commercially available mix CD, we still find Mr. Nasty at the helm, box of records at his feet, doing what he has done best for the last quarter of a century. But Billy Nasty has never been just a DJ, he has enjoyed an extensive recording career and runs two record labels highly-regarded by a broad range of DJs and record buyers alike. With a career spanning 25 years, Billy continues to travel the world as one of the most in-demand DJs, lighting up dancefloors at some of the most prestigious events and infamous clubs across the globe. From early beginnings playing rare groove and funk to his first forays into acid house during his residency at London’s The Brain Club, to regular slots at seminal London clubs such as Final Frontier, Open All Hours, The Drum Club and Strutt, to having played pretty much every Festival and club worth mentioning ever since, Billy continues to DJ the world over whilst also maintaining a residency with esteemed electronic pioneers BLOC. On top of his DJing, Billy Nasty has also maintained a strong production presence over the years. Earlier more progressive outings included Shi-Take (with Dave Wesson) or Vinyl Blair (with Chemical Brothers engineer Steve Dub) to his studio collaborations with Gregor Tresher and Anthony Rother on Datapunk, culminating in his current partnership with Keith Tenniswood (aka Radioactive) man as RadioNasty. In 2013 Billy relaunched his legendary techno and electro imprints, Tortured and Electrix, to critical acclaim. The debut release on Tortured was the RadioNasty ‘Breakin Bad EP’, featuring two stunning Ben Sims remixes as well as two original tracks. As RadioNasty the pair have unleashed several tracks over the last two years for labels such as Craig Richard’s The Nothing Special and EPM including the (relaunched) Tortured debut release 'Breakin Bad' EP and the 'Clave to the Rhythm' EP on Electrix. The guys were last seen disappearing into the studio bunker, planning the next slew of releases and collaborations, set to emerge over the coming year. This is Billy's 2nd time driving The Bus, the first was in 1999, also @ Paradiso!!
RUBZMAN: Dutch dj/producer Rubzman uses deep & uplifting dance music to take his audience on an adventure. In the early 80’s he started making music using a 4 track sampler. Taking inspiration fr his day-job as 1/3 of the Vision Impossible vj team, his signature is a warm blend of sounds & cinematic build-ups. 2014 saw the release of his 1st EP on Cosmic Disco Records, a 2nd EP was released on Berlin-based Code2---both well received. His latest EP, Atlantiz, is a solo production on A'dam label Xqisit. An EP Ibiza Spirit w/ dj Lady Ace was brought out in May & the duo became hosts of Cosmic Disco's monthly radio show. Rubzman holds down various residencies in A'dam; vet! at Club NL, Panama, Sugar Factory, & The Bus naturally, after having played his 1st official gig w/ us @ Paradiso in 2011!
LADY ACE is a future-sound dj w/ an inspiring sound that takes you on an exciting uplifting journey. Next to dj'ing she is also an underground promotor of dj's/producers + advisor for events re booking artists, acts, visuals & new projects. Starting her dj adventure in Amsterdam in the early 90's, she's played in Miami, Kiev, Jakarta, Ibiza, sharing the booth with Sister Bliss, Future Shock, Gino, Mason.. This yr she & producer Rubzman released their 1st track together recorded in Ibiza named Ibiza Spirit on Cosmic Disco Records. Together with Cosmic Disco they host a monthly radio show. Lady Ace plays regularly for Nomads, 5&33, vet!, Club NL, & The Bus incl @ Paradiso!
2016: It's 20 years since THE BUS Party Organization was started in Amsterdam in 1996 by Canadian ex-pat Debra Mitchell as a vehicle to bring English dj and friend John OO Fleming to The Netherlands. Borrowing the name "The Bus" from the philosophy of 1960's Merry Band of Pranksters, (with full approval of Chief Prankster Ken Kesey), The Bus got running Saturday 2 March 1996 at Amsterdam's Catacomben with John OO Fleming taking the driver's seat. Saturday 9 August 1996, after just 3 small sold-out parties, The Bus made their Paradiso (V.I.P. Club) debut headlined by Dave Randall, (having made his Netherlands debut 20 April 1996, also on The Bus, also at Catacomben). The Bus celebrated their one-year anniversary with a party at Paradiso---their third Pardiso party in little more than six months---with John OO Fleming back behind the wheels. In total The Bus has done 14 full Paradiso parties with international djs such as Billy Nasty, Fabio Paras, Steve Thomas, Devilfish...with local heros the likes of JP, Angelo, Paul Jay, Cellie, Gino, David Hernandez...introduced newcomers Bart Skils, Steven de Peven...and giving start to artists like Airplain Visuals, Raymond Taubin Chabot.. Even Simon Vinkenoog has enriched The Bus with a performance. Also responsible for memorable parties at the Church of Ruigoord, Mazzo, and various clubs and squats, (working with Radical Rehousing), The Bus has travelled to Denmark with Het Amsterdam Ballongezelschap to co-organize parties there. In 2001 when Ken Kesey passed on, Debra began to take a back seat in the party world, having lost her mentor. Now, after an overhaul, The Bus is back on the scene. With parties at Paradiso, Pand 14, Club NL, 't Schuim, The Bus is now in talks with some of Holland's biggest festival organizers.
What to expect on a Bus party?? ---Excellent music, (techno, acid, house), handmade decoration, a fun warm friendly atmosphere where you can be yourself, as well as an opportunity for new artists from all disciplines to work with established artists. Are You On The Bus? It's The Business!
