It has been twenty years now that we have been providing Planet Earth with intergalactic techno sounds. But what you don’t know, dear Earthlings, is that our very own spacecraft is a treasure of sounds as well. We can listen to the music produced by the machines inside our cherished spaceship for hours and hours.

The bleeps of our aerodynamic radars harmonize perfectly with the buzzing of our high-gain antennas. The many onboard computers - responsible for the overall performance of our spacecraft’s activity – make crackling noises that form the synth lines of the soft purring of the pyrotechnic subsystems. Our rocket engines produce a haunting, ravey sound that blends in harmoniously with the hypnotic humming of our transmitters. All these unique, crafted sounds make the perfect techno soundtrack for a radiant night out. We can’t help but get completely absorbed by this music we love so much.

► Concept

For this new spaceflight, the final chapter of our 20th anniversary celebrations, we have invited several techno artists from whom we are sure that they will align their techno sounds perfectly with those of our interstellar spacecraft.

Buoyed by the whirlwind success he has enjoyed over the past six years, Alan Fitzpatrick begins 2015 at the top of his game and brimming with the confidence you would expect from a talent who is recognized globally as one of the most influential techno artists of the moment. Having enjoyed a rapid ascent through the ranks since his emergence as the new kid on the techno block in the latter half of 2008, Fitzpatrick now holds a high status as a universally respected and in-demand producer and DJ who clearly succeeded in carving out a recognizable musical niche for himself. 2014 saw the emergence of a broader sound from Fitzpatrick’s palette. Releases for James Teej’s ‘My Favorite Robot’ label and Paul Ritch’s Quartz Records or the remix of Stevie V’s classic ‘Dirty Cash’ exposed a more soulful, deeper sound. On the back of a standout 2014, Fitzpatrick’s underground momentum has seen him garner an even wider fan base resulting in the Englishman’s stock rising rapidly thanks to a profile-boosting Ibiza season and multiple end-of year accolades, most notably a debut entry at 85 in Resident Advisor’s Top 100 poll. But it is Alan’s substantial output for Drumcode in particular which made his huge reputation as a dynamic producer capable of bringing variety to his productions and dj-sets. It also made him a steady feature on the many Drumcode events throughout the world. Alan Fitzpatrick knows how to move the dance-floor and he will definitely be moving our spacecraft too!

One of techno's true underground heroes, Function (Dave Sumner) has been DJ’ing and making music for over 20 years. He started to put out music on Damon Wild's Synewave label and his own Infrastructure imprint in New York since the mid ‘90’s. Together with Regis he also worked as Portion Reform, putting out uncompromising music on Downwards. In 2008 Dave moved to Berlin and put his focus on the acclaimed Sandwell District imprint. Since then the label has skyrocketed into cult status. In 2013 Function presented his debut album ‘Incubation’ on Ostgut Ton – a modern sound journey heavy on imagery with writhing, layered club tracks, soaring string-led atmospheres, and complex melodic pieces founded on classic electronic traditions. This year, besides reinventing his label Infrastructure NY with label partner Ed Davenport, Function released the Berghain mix series: Berghain 07, available as a free download alongside two EPs with eight exclusive tracks by various artists. Still at the forefront of redefining techno, he’s an artist we always love to welcome on board.

Terence Fixmer is one of France’s most illustrated characters and has been at the forefront of the techno scene for over 10 successful years with two solo albums on Gigolo, DJ Hell’s mythical label, of which the seminal ‘Muscle Machine’ that single-handedly spearheaded a new style called “techno body music”. Next to copious maxis on prestigious labels such as Gigolo, Novamute, Datapunk, Different, Music Man, Prologue, Turbo and remixes for various techno gods from Sven Väth to Dave Clarke, DJ Hell and Speedy J to Radio Slave...Terence Fixmer’s sound deftly avoids repetition by developing soundscapes that appeal to the club crowd whilst still maintaining musical depth and integrity with sombre, surging rhythmical structures. His fourth long-player ‘Comedy Of Menace’ appeared on Speedy J’s Electric Deluxe label in 2010. It is true techno album with an instantly recognizable, pure sound and a deep and dark atmosphere throughout. More recently you can often find him in Chris Liebing’s CLR camp for which he did several podcasts and 12”, before releasing his latest album ‘Depth Charge’ on CLR this year. Since 2002 till today, he also runs his own Planet Rouge Records to great critical acclaim. We are looking very forward to hear his latest live-set resonate through our spacecraft!

Bringing you up to light speed will be resident Spacid who knows how to tune into the techno rhythms of our space-rocket very well. You will be brought back to gravitational orbit by none other than Pilose. He’s a neurotic music collector with a never ending musical apetite and a love for all things abstract and somewhat dangerous sounding. Always able to adept and read the crowd, without compromising on his own unique style.
