To Sync or not Sync, that is the question. Well, all dj’s who will perform at Pitch Please! have stated that no Syncing will take place while they perform at Café d’Anvers the 18th of December.
What the hell is syncing, I hear you think?
Without getting technical, a little history lesson
Before CD and MP3 were introduced, vinyl records were played on turntables with a pitch control in order to beat match 2 records and to create a fluent mix. This beat matching was done by ear and hand, meaning that the dj listened to both records and adjusted the tempo manually. It took a whole lot of time and practice to learn this skill and to perfect one’s style.
With the introduction of CD and USB turntables, also came the function to sync 2 records with the touch of a button.
It was now possible to just push a little button, called Sync, and the 2 records were in sync...

Maybe you heard or read many heated discussions about whether or not syncing is actually DJ’ing but we don’t want to enter this discussion here, just know that all dj’s at Pitch Please! won’t be using that little button, but instead will perform live hearing and adjusting instead of a machine deciding things.
It is said that manual mixing sounds more human, with sometimes a little mistake here and there, but hey, who wants perfection anyway? Perfection is boring.
