 Nederland

Aanvullende informatie?

Veto. In 1994/1995 there still where some Hardcore acts representing this sound at Mayday. Even in 1996/1997 there was one hard act (Liza N Eliaz) booked at Mayday. 1998 was the first Mayday without any Hardcore/Gabber sound.

Germany had his own sound at this time. The whole PCP crew, Nordcore, Gabba Nation Berlin, Shockwave Recordings. This was German Hardcore. Mike Oh Man was and still is just a copy of that what was/is trendy in the Netherlands.

Just in the eastern part of the country. As closer you get to the border to Holland as more you hear the influence of yours. :)

At some point the scene in Germany was quite as big or even bigger than in the Netherlands. Just remember your downtime in Hardcore 1999-2001. There weren't many big partys held in Holland where on a regulary basis partys were given in Germany for 2-3000 people (1-2 a month).
Resident E (Acardipane) had his biggest high here and also P.T.P. (DJ Ron & Co.) build a name throughout the years. But this all just lasted until aprox. 2003. After that the German scene slowly died once more.

But there is a new breed of German producers who have the capability to create something new on their own again.

Here's an example how German Hardcore sounds nowadays. :)

Interessant :jaja:

Destino > Thank you very much for clearing things out and the interesting information!

Yes, Techno was a massive phenomenon in Germany. But until 1996 also the "Happy Hardcore" was quite big over here. Just look at Marusha, Westbam, Raver's Nature, etc... it surely sounded different to the dutch sound and was called "Rave" (stupid name) back then but for me it was just the German extension of that sound.

But the term "Hardcore" never really got big in the media. 1993 nearly everything in Techno/Rave culture was Hardcore so that doesn't count.
As soon as this Gabberfashion with bold heads etc started it was slowly but surely banned from everywhere. The magazines gave the music a bad name and a stupid attitude to be for aggressive people and junkies. This "wrong" picture of the scene made it impossible for the music to become really big over here.

Yes but this was and still is a totally different scene. Left-wing politics and more for a "punk" crowd than Ravers.

Norman - The Big Deal
Sequential One - Dance
Obsessive - Tune In Turn Out
Taciturne - Der Toten
Hardsequencer - Braincrash
Naked Steal - Vive La France
Influid - Push The Button
C-Tank - Nightmares Are Reality

There were many magazines through the years. Beschädigt, Hakkerz, E-Mag... But all very small and most of the time free of charge.

To vote a most popular DJ in Germany is nearly impossible cause there isn't "one united scene" over here. The DJs mostly stay in their territorie (N, E, S, W). For example Sascha rarely played outside of Berlin. The Speed Freak got world famous but he can call himself lucky if he plays one time a year in his home country. :)
The scene in the Western part near to Holland was always (and still is) the biggest because they copied the dutch style and cooperated with ID&T and other big organisations. The scene in North and East Germany was the totally opposite (Nordcore, Gabba Nation) and pointed with their fingers on them being too commercial, etc...

There were a few projects to bring the scene together like this compilation you posted above but overall it's still divided and everyone "cooks in his own kitchen". ;)

And yes, it compiled the different styles that were present on partys at that time.

Another good example is Frankfurt. Got famous for PCP an their specific sound but there was no big scene or partys over there which supported this in any way. :) They got their fame only across the border.

Thanks for the answers man! So the Northern scene - hence the name Nordcore? - liked to use the term 'hartcore' instead of 'hardcore', because they considered that a totally different sound than the Dutch hardcore? Does Nordcore still exist? And what about other Northern groups like Gabba Front Berlin & Schwerin Hardcore Family? And why the disstrack by DJ Fistfuck (aka Speedfreak) "T.B.'s Gehirnamputation (Operation Mordcore)" (TB -> Thomas Böttcher or The Butcher)?
Sorry for this shitload of questions but you seem to own a great knowledge about German hardcore. ;)

haha, no problem! Let me throw my dangerous smattering knowledge upon you. ^^

Exactly, Nordcore comes from Hamburg which lies in the North of our country so it was called this way. :) Yes they named it Hartcore because hard is spelled hart in German and so they had a way to promote their own sound under this pseudonym. Nordcore released their last tunes digitally in 2007 but no partys were being held for 5 years. There was a Nordcore party this year in Hamburg and maybe they resurrect but I can't give you more exact information in this case.

Thomas Böttcher (the main man behind Nordcore) wasn't a really famous person within the scene. ;) He ripped off DJs or banned them from his Partys for hilarious reasons. So he did with The Speed Freak and this track was his answer to him.

Schwerin Hardcore Family organizes partys in their city since 1996 I guess. But the scene over there is quite small. The releases on the label are also very limited and more collector's items.

GFB is located in Berlin and more the Eastern part of Germany. I know nothing interesting about them but their releases. They are survivors of the Bunker family I guess. :)

Thunderdome I:

Biochip C - Bass Invaders (Remix)
Mike Ink & The Chain Of Brotherhood - Lovely Ugly Brutal World
Fuckmasters - Lick My Ass
C-Tank - Biolunch
Sorcerer - The Silence
Fazer - When I'm Gone

Thunderdome III:

Leathernecks - At War
Program 1 - World's Famous MF (Live At Hellraiser Amsterdam)
Frankfurt Terror Corp p- Mr. Dabolina
Tumor - Tumult
Ace Cosmic - Why
Nasty Django - King Of FFM

Thunderdome IV:

Hardsequencer - Noise Is The Message (Remix)
Ilsa Gold - Silke (The Speedfreak Remix)
Car & Driver - Passiv
RMB - The Place To Be
Sorcerer - Summer
NIP Collective - Weekend Track
Nasty Django - SGE
Casseopaya - 10 Seconds To Terminate Live
E-De-Cologne - Zimboculture
Speedfreak - Red Poison Part 1
E-De-Cologne - Ein Bisschen Frieden
Speedfreak - Red Poison Part 3

2003-2007 most of the old Hardcore labels stopped or died in Germany, like Acardipane Records, Kotzaak, P.T.P., Shockwave, Nordcore... besides a few small Speedcore or Uptempo labels like Strike and the whole SBM-Catalog there were no labels which supported Hardcore anymore.

Until today nearly all big German Hardcore acts release their music outside of Germany. Speed Freak in France, Stormtrooper & Stan Grewzell in USA, Slavefriese, Moleculez, Mortifer, Embrionyc, Squaresoundz in NL... with a few exceptions.

Important Records started a few labels for new talent but the sound is mainly Dutch Mainstream Hardcore so nothing I would call German Hardcore. ;)

The scene for this kind of music wasn't that big. Small underground events for max. 2-300 people. Most of these acts played at Nordcore's Box or at the Bunker in Berlin. I never seen one of them in West Germany (where I live).

The only interesting thing you might not know is that Lord Nord (Marco Hartmann) was the producer of all the early Nordcore "hits". He and Thomas Böttcher split up in 1996/1997 and as a diss towards Nordcore and being responsible for the sound they invented he named himself Lord Nord.

Another question Destino, are you familiar with "New Kids"? I believe it was also huge in Germany. Did this cause some kind of new 'happy hardcore'revival?
Because DJ Paul Elstak made a new "happy hardcore-track" but I believe Scooter also did something. And there is this German style called "Hands Up" (Kirmestechno ;) ) which is some sort of mix of happy hardcore, hardtrance and eurodance. I believe this is pretty big in Germany? Producers like Rocco & Bass-T even call their style Dancecore. So is this Hands Up thing the new German (happy) rave?

haha, yes I know New Kids and love them. ^^ But the music in this film hasn't really affected the scene here as far as I know. Scooter is hated by everybody over here but it's the only "Techno" act which remains in the German charts for nearly 20 years, haha! ^^ So somebody must listen to them I guess...
I don't listen to Kirmestechno, Hands Up or Dancecore. I think it's the music that's being played in what we call "Großraumdiskotheken". Big clubs to get teenagers drunk and make a lot of money. :D
