Ja, Frankfurt am Main heeft me altijd geïnspireerd.
Zoals ik al zei, “it’s a dream come true”.
You grew up in Frankfurt. How was it like there? Did the city have any influence on your interest for music in your childhood?
Yes, Frankfurt always inspired me. Not only because lots of other famous DJ’s come from Frankfurt, but it is a beautiful city and also very liked by the artists. Furthermore this city settles lots of trends in the electronic music genre…
At the age of 10 you purchased your first decks, what kind of equipment did you start with? And was techno your first love or did you start with another genre? Did you have other ambitions or was your focus on a music career only?
I had 1 Technics and another Dual-turntable and a 2 channel mixer. So actually “nothing” compared with the normal standard equipment. After some holiday-jobs and saving money wherever possible, I changed the equipment to a better one. Techno was directly my first love. Techno in all it’s different styles. And this didn’t change till today. Offcourse I always wanted to do music, but the focus at the beginning was not on a career. it was just for fun but then it became more and more serious, and nowadays I couldn’t live any more without Dj’ing !
When you were 16 years old you made your debut on stage. What sort of gig was it? My understanding is that your father was accompanying you back in those days. How did he get involved?
Yes, at the young age of 16 I had the chance to DJ in very, very small clubs and youth centres. During this time my father was the best support I ever got. Thanks Daddy !!!! Today, he is still coming along on some Events, and I am very proud of this. Sometimes he is more dancing on the stage than me….
When did you feel/know that your DJ career was turning from a serious hobby into a professional lifestyle?
This is something I never really think about. How can you “measure” when it is a professional thing ? I really don’t know… Anyway, I am very happy with the current situation, and hope that I can do this still for a looooong time. I just see it as a big dream becoming true.
From 2004 till now it seems like a complete succesrace; new radioshow, residence in U60311, National DJ of the year 2007 award, and over 60 records on your name. What's your personal greatest moment since you've touched your first DJ equipment? Is there more to reach for in your position? Do you have special wishes left?
The last years were just awesome. I don’t want to highlight myself or anything else, I am just happy as it is. But you also shouldn’t forget that it was A LOT of work. I don’t have any concrete plans in mind for the future, I just look forward to what happens. any special wishes ? Mhm…not really…. Except DJ’ing until I go into retirement maybe with 60, or 70 / 80 years
Your interaction with the public, during a performance, is legendary. Where does all that passion and energy come from?
I am glad to hear this. For me it is very important to be always in contact with the people on the dancefloor. I love partying during my sets, and that’s why I sometimes join the clubbers… I think the passion is just the music and the general feeling on the night. actually this is just something normal….
What is your favorite record?
A question that is always hard to answer, as there are too many that come directly to my mind, which I like. Furthermore those favourite records always change, as there is too much nice music out
During the summer you played at a lot of Festivals (loveparade, nature one, Monegros Desert festival, streetparade....). a lot of people realized, that your sound changed now. How can you explain that?
Yes, this is absolutely true. Actually for me this is change is not a big theme to discuss, but lots of people are asking me about. Let me explain again: I think it is just something normal for every human being, to create something new, to develop further and not to stand still the whole time at the same point. If this wouldn’t be, we would be still sitting on trees and behave like monkeys. I also don’t know any artist who played always the same music in his whole life. Or take a painter like "van Gogh" - did he paint always the same picture ?? Well, and I always try to develop myself. Even though I didn’t see any development in the hardtechno scene...mostly the same loop with covers from the 80's ! I describe my style just as TECHNO. no hard, no soft, no minimal, no electro, no house, just TECHNO. and at the end, the only thing that counts is, that the people are having fun and the party is rocking.
Do you have any upcoming projects?
Yes of course, there are always things upcoming.
We are working currently on a new DVD. The last one "The live collection" was really successful and this time we want to focus more on international events. So we will record our asia gigs (Seoul, Jakarta + Japan tour), as well as some international events during the last summer.
Furthermore I finally find more time to go in the studio... and working on a new single and album which will come out in the first half of 2009. Also I am just developing my “When the going gets tough” Events at U60311 in Frankfurt, where I host every first Friday a month a night with international DJ’s. So, lots of work
