Biografie
Joseph Ashworth has been making waves with a distinctive sound, that exists somewhere between House, Techno and Electronica. Like any great musician he takes inspiration from a much larger spectrum and continues to be one of the most versatile and exciting producers in electronic music today.
Growing up in Bournemouth and relocating to London, Joseph settled into releasing music and DJing under his birth name rather than an alias, providing creative honesty and a necessity to maintain an extremely high standard, with no where to hide.
Throughout 2018, Joseph has been a regular name on taste-makers' lips, having released music on Get Weird, Dirtybird, Pets Recordings and Anjunadeep. With a 12" EP still to come on DJ Tennis's Life & Death, 2019 is looking to be a new chapter with an exciting musical direction.
It's not often a DJ/producer releases an album right at the birth of their career, but that's exactly what Joseph did with Grain LP (NeedWant). It immediately exhibited his ability and studio technique, but also his ambition and the scope of his artistry. The album showed a powerful statement of intent, fusing gritty techno beats with carefully composed melody, field recordings and painstakingly finessed sound design. DJ Magazine described it as 'truly brilliant'.
Joseph's DJ sets tie in very closely with his production, and he regularly charms crowds from New York to New Delhi with his quirky but reassuring sound, borrowing from every corner of dance music's rich tapestry, whilst bringing a sonic finesse that only an audiophile could accomplish.
If you find yourself at this year's BPM or CRSSD festival, expect to see Joseph Ashworth behind the decks, or at the very least one of his inimitable grooves bellowing out from the speakers under the clear blue skies.
