Biografie
Gary Maguire's influence on the trance scene cannot be understated. Emerging from a successful career on the hardcore circuit, his uniquely blended style of trance was spotted in 2008 by John Askew who quickly signed him to the Discover imprint. He was an instant success with productions such as Borderline, One Way and True Colours gaining support from a long list of A list DJS including Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Matt Hardwick and John O'Callaghan to name just a few.
Fast forward to 2010 and Gary released his first mix compilation, Dark Sessions II – a combination of reworked classics together with a host of new Maguire originals – all mixed to devastating effect. The trance community swooned!! – and MixMag named it their Album Of The Month. A year later and Gary was once again on the compilation trail heading up a new series, the first of which was to focus on the Irish Trance scene. Mark Kavanagh, the Music editor for the Irish Daily Star summed it up perfectly.
The crucial role of Discover Records in the development of the Irish trance scene in recent years cannot be overstated. The astute signing of John O'Callaghan early in his career and the release of music by his peers Greg Downey, Neal Scarborough and Bryan Kearney proved inspirational for a new generation of aspiring Irish producers.
The most gifted of these is arguably Gary Maguire; the fast rising talent who has understandably excited Discover's John Askew as much as the globe-conquering O'Callaghan had previously. It is a fitting tribute that he launches this fantastic new international trance series.
2010 also saw Gary start to cut his teeth with a record label as he was given the role of taking over from John Askew at Discover Dark as head of A & R.
This was a huge act to follow but Gary stepped up to the plate admirably ushering in a successful new chapter in the labels history. As an in demand remixer Gary's interpretations regularly topped the charts and playlists of the worlds elite, none more so than his now legendary remix of Bullet In The Gun which as well as being Markus Schulz's Tune of the Week also appeared on a host of high profile dance compilations.
His success as a DJ has mirrored that of his productions taking him as far afield as Argentina and Mexico together with a host of European gigs. In 2012 he stepped down from his A & R role to concentrate on his debut artist album. As you would expect, he put everything into the project turning down numerous remix requests and production offers along the way.
If you haven't worked it out by now, when Gary Maguire does something he does it with integrity, with focus and above all, with style. InSide features 9 new originals and has been critically acclaimed across the board being considered by many as a contender for trance album of the year. They say that it takes a lifetime to write your first album and Gary Maguire has certainly put his heart and soul into his. In a world where music is becoming increasingly disposable it is refreshing to know that there are still artists out there who are capable of producing work that stands proudly as a beacon of creativity.
As Mark Kavanagh once said:
'The mind boggles when pondering just how far this young man can go. This is history in the making".
