A fine red wine or whiskey has to age for a long time; this is not necessarily the case with a good DJ because David Nicolas is living proof of that! Talent, a sense of timing, and a steady hand for the right record at the right moment. These are essential conditions for sets worthy of the name; the DJs build up the mood and, in doing so, determine the success or failure of a party. It goes without saying that David Nicolas has these abilities otherwise he would hardly be a member of mono! After all, the high quality sound, the friendly tone within the family and the outstanding good audience, are all points he mentions in response to the question what is mono and what makes it unique for him.
The spark that drew him to electronic music was an event, which, at least at first glance, could not have been more different: The visit to Nature One, Germany's largest electronic festival with a large array of stars and roughly 50,000 visitors. A trip to the Sunwave Festival in Rumania also with a gigantic magnitude convinced David. On the final set of Zip he became certain that he wants or, rather, has to become a DJ. There have to be common denominators – be it the lifeblood of the organizer in question, or the community spirit that develops at these monster raves or at each mono party in k_Klub or Loft. These days it is precisely here that David feels perfectly content after he raved on a party mission first through the legendary Mannheim-based Lagerhaus and then all over Offenbach!
His sound is wide-ranging: from Tech and Deep House to Minimal and the classics of the early House Culture - anything goes. "Getting something across" and responding to the audience and external circumstances are David's parameters. The fact that he also wants to express himself in his own tracks sooner or later, presumably needs no extra mention. More worthy of mention is the fact that he did not spend an unnecessary amount of time and had his first release ready within half a year: Together with the Mannheim native and colleague, Veitengruber, "I keep this" was released on Movida Records at the end of 2010. If the young man continues at this pace, it won't be much longer until his first release at mono recordings...!
