Biografie
Do you know how it feels when you're under the impression that some Boca Grandi always Turn up everywhere you go, that they always seem to be in the same social circles as you? But at the same time you've never really had the chance to sit down and really get to know each other. Well, this was The Case for Steven de Peven (also known as Awanto 3) and Tom Trago – now the duo Alfabet – for a long time.
They first bumped into each other when Tom had just started DJ-ing, and he found himself intrigued by Steven de Peven and his Rednose District Project.
At that time, Steven de Peven was making housey, soulful hiphop beats on a MPC 2000 with Kid Sublime and Aardvarck while Tom Trago went his own direction and Made a name for himself. But Tom was definitely still maintaining his 'Rednose' and staying in touch with everybody over at Rush Hour/Kindred Spirits and thus with Steven de Peven.
After years and years of sort of knowing each other it all finally started when they shared a studio in Amsterdam. At last the boys got together in the studio and made a couple of tracks. This is when Tom and Steven decided they should make it official and Alfabet was born.
After recording for four days straight in an abandoned, squatted hotel in the small beach town 'Bergen aan Zee', they completely forgot they had Made the instant hit EP 'Roundabout' (containing tracks A and B ) when they got back in Amsterdam. Imagine hearing an instant classic track for the first time, realizing you produced it yourself!
After this the 'Chicago Thank You' EP (C & D) and 'Hell Of Samba' EP (E & F) followed, also released on Rush Hour. 2013 will see the light of tracks G & H: 'Fifth Floor' and 'Weight A Minute', which leaves them with another 18 to finish before the alphabet runs out. Yes, Alfabet will continue their music making for as long as the alphabet will allow them, but don't be saddened by this seemingly definite end. When Tom and Steven have released the complete 'Alfabet' from A to Z as EP's, they will release their album and probably start on a Chinese, Russian or phonetic alphabet, just so that they can continue their collaboration.
Alfabet allows them to accomplish their quest for good energy and quality music. Also, it is a way to celebrate their friendship (and long shall they live) but most of all: Alfabet is here for the love of music. Alfabet will only do live shows, which we might add, will be rare. So be sure to catch the Alfabet before they hit the Z.
